Sorry to ask on here but from my experience the chaps over here are far more experienced and knolegable on french engines and much much more helpfull, iv had 60 people view my thread on 206info and no reply.. so hopeing somone can help me!

Just bought a 206 gti, Had it about 2 weeks, Fitted a janspeed backbox and a K&N open cone filter,

Iv noticed in the rain that the car sometimes leaves an oil splurge when parked up running but not a great deal as in you cant see thick drops of oil on the concrete, just as if a couple have drops have touched the water and dispersed, i have tracked it down to being the rear rocker cover as it apears to be running from the coilpack area down the side of the block and pooling in the casting of the gearbox,

BUT... In 2 weeks and around 600 miles of ownership, it has lost enough oil from being completely full on the dipstick and on the dash display, to the MIN line on the dipstick and Min_ _ _ _ _ _ on the display,

Also, If driving the car normal the dipstick stays in fine, But if on a exaggerated drive say taking the car past 5000 rpm the dipstick will blow out of the dipstick tube....

I really don't think the rocker cover can have lost that amount of oil whilst driving round ? as i used to have a saxo VTS which are renowned for crap rocker cover sealing, and this used to leave large amounts of oil on my driveway... when the seal was leaking worse than what my 206 looks,

My freind also pointed out that when the oilcap is removed from the engine whilst running it blows alot of oil out, i thought this was normal but the same amount doesnt seem to be blowing out of the rear rocker cover when the breather pipe is disconnected ?

Is this possibly valve stem seals on the intake side of things ? or are my rings shot or is this normal ?

Does anyone know the reason two why this large engine only has one breather pipe on the exhaust rocker cover aposed to most 16v engines having one coming from both rocker covers ?

Does anyone know what the compression should be on these engines ?

Going to give it a full service at the weekend and seal the rocker covers

Also if the cars been sat sometimes for example last night, came home from work at about 6.30 parked up, went back out at 8.30 and the car didn't start up until like the 4th or 5th crank over on first key turn its done this a few times now which makes me think maybe there's oil getting into the cylinders, but when warm the car fires up pretty much as soon as the key is turned

However, My valve stems where shot in my 206 XSI jp4 and that used to kick out allot of blue smoke on start up after it had been sat and you could strongly smell the oil in the exhaust, But with this i cant see or smell any smoke/ burning oil ?

there's also no oil getting in the water to eliminate hg issues, The car is also still pulling very strong, Car has good history just gone onto 90,000 miles and i bought it of a mature older owner who has had it some years:wall:

The easiest and cheapest way is to slowly progress the trouble shooting ,

Engine is consuming too much oil and has loads of oil fumes , do an oil and oil filter change this way you will be able to see how the engine behaves with new oil in it ( i am guessing you don't know of its previous service history- what quality oil has been used etc )

dripping oil from the rocker covers would mean your engine bay is pretty dirty by now , give it a good clean and trace the leakage , maybe its loosing oil from lower down the block...

A compression test will show if all cylinders are is the same state of wear ,

Valve stem seals could be "dried out " if previous owner only used the car in really low revs and for short trips , had that in my first s1 rallye , one woman owner from new till 60K , engine didn't go past 5000rpm very often.... and used 1lt of oil every 600miles/1000km , changed the stem seals and it was fine.
But as you say you would have visible indication of burnt oil from the exhaust

hope any of the above helps at all , someone more involved with these engines might be more info:y:

blowing the dipstick out would indicate high crankcase pressure. which would be a blocked breather or heavy breathing (worn rings/bores)

Going to do a compression test sunday, Its had a woman owner for the past few years and its only done about 700 miles since its last mot in Feb last year ill update with compression test results, i was also thinking blocked breather,

id also like to note that its defiantly got blowback coming from the intake valve / cam rocker cover, BUT the exhaust side cover which the breather pipe to the intake is attached doesn't appear to have 1/4 of the amount of blow back as the inlet one!

i find it really strange to only have a breather pipe on one rocker cover

Sorted had to do a 160 mile round trip tonight stopped off at a garage on my way home thought I'd check the oil and surprise surprise it was very low, Had a good look round the car and it was absolutely covered in oil!! Even the boot lid rear window spoiler the lot!, Source of the Leak was the oil filter must of had a small hole in it / crack loosing oil under acceleration load, well stress of sitting at 80 for an hour on the motorway caused it to open up more!! So that's that one sorted!

Alright there bud , i have a 206 gti 138.... The rocker cover only having one breather pipe on the one side is completely normal and fine I once questioned this myself. They do tend to have a lot of pressure when you take the oil cap off but its hard to tell without seeing/feeling it first hand , defiantly worth the compression test.

I would give it a good service with a decent engine flush and good oil , i got mine on 46k with one owner from new it did 44k miles from 2002-2008 and then averaged 400-500 miles a year until i got it and it didn't like being revved high at all so go easy for a while.

After i did that journey and thought to my self oh lord iv lost nearly 4 litres of oil in 160 miles.... My heart sunk!

You don't no how relieved i was to actually finally find the source of the major leak lol! seing the oil over the rear window first and back bumper etc, it made me instantly think the engine was shot, firing my oil out the exhaust

Indeed I am it's a good job I was running out of fuel at the right time! Filled her back up and she sounds fine will be doing a full service when I finish work ill also cut the filter open to see if there's any filings in it
