Hey, i have a mk2 saxo furio.. Atm i have a standard exhaust system with a powerflow back box and an induction kit.. However this is not loud enough for me and i want pops! I was thinking of fitting a new centre pipe, either sprintspeed or sportex and maybe changing the backbox to match, however as i think the cat is in the manifold will it make much of a difference to sound? (Car is year 2000) also i do NOT want to decat because i am not mechanically minded and do not want to keep changing it for mots. What should i do? Will a different make of backbox on its own make much difference?

It won't pop and bang with a cat. Don't waste your time.

Its not that much effort to swap an exhaust for an mot tbh, a few bolts here and there. It's only once a year too...

Even if the cat is in the manifold?

You can even do it the cheap way and get the down pipe from a mk1 as they have the cat under the car, will be about £10 from any scrappy and will do the job

What so a down pipe would remove the cat in the manifold, so it would go manifold - downpipe - decat pipe - centre pipe - backbox?

So on a mk2 saxo there is a manifold with a cat straight under it, then it goes centre section then back box, on a MK1 saxo it goes manifold down pipe, the cat, then a shorter centre section to connect the back of the cat then back box, so if you get the standard down pipe from a MK1 saxo any model it will have a. Down pipe without a cat in it, so on a mk2 would act as a de cat 4-1 manifold, loads of people have done it, just go to a. Scrappy and get one for £10ish, I've got one here on a vtr I'm breaking but I'm miles away aha

Ohh right ok thanks for the advice:) i thought the cat was like in the manifold itself:L thats not a bad shout at all, but is the mk1 down pipe a direct fit between the manifold and centre pipe of a mk2?
Also i was maybe thinking of just changing the whole manifold and de cat that way, however i wouldnt be able to do it myself.. Is it easy enough for a mechanic to do? And would you know how long it took?

When I had my mk2 Saxo the cat was in the mani same on all mk2s so I bought a 4-1 mani with a sports cat still ok on not and no changing.
Now I have a early type the cat is in the down pipe so it's just the case of a de cat pipe and then change it for mot every 12months.
Will be honest mine used to pop like mad even more do when I was slowing down and going through the gears used to go mad around second gear but now it doesn't seem to do it as much :(

Yeah mk1 down pipe is straight fit there is 4bolts that u get from underneath then 2 that connect to the middle pipe, and the same OBVZ it put the mk1 down pipe on

That sounds easy enough, so you are literally taking the cat off and replacing with a downpipe

Just seen your only in Cambridge, so not a total mission to come over my way, there's a vts in the local scrappy that's got one on it or I am 99% there is one at my unit I'd let you have for £10 (would even fit it for you for £5er that's how simple it is
