Gearbox problems?

Right guys my car need a new gearbox apparently according to my dad's mate who's a mechanic! When I set off in first it kinda sounds like there's bits in the engine spinning round. Apparently it's something to do with th planetary gears in the gearbox has anyone else got any knowledge of this? He just hasn't said much apart from it needs a new one he wouldn't rip me off cos he's a family friend but I still want to know a bit more! Cheers lads

Yeah hope it's oright after clutch and gear box been done! Anything else it could be?
