This might sound like a stupid question but would a vts start without an alternator? Like the alternator is not on at all the live from the starter and the multirplug is not plugged in, would this stop the car from starting ? cheers.

It will start and run, but battery light on and no fans out rear demister I believe

Yes it would still start without the alternator plugged in,your battery won't be charged obviously and so the battery light comes on.

If it's anything like my saxo it'll run for 30mins which was enough to get me home with a dead alternator.:y:
