As per the title. My cat has come adrift right at the bottom. I have a new one on order, so does anyone have any tips about changing it? I know the lambda sensor can be a bugger to get out, (have my blowtorch on standby) Someone said I need some gaskets (thought these would be supplied with the new cat, but someone says not)
Is it a difficult job,(lying on my back swearing like a trooper because bolts won't undo) or a half hour breeze?

Any and all tips gratefully received.

Thanks in advance. JB

Changed my manifold and cat on my 2002 VTR the other week. It was a right bastard of a job! No nuts wanted to come undone, not even with a blow torch. I had to use a welding torch in the end to get them hot enough (cherry red) to undo. That was with all nuts!

You'll need a fitting kit, where the cat fits to the centre pipe ideally. They're £15 on ebay.

I suggest running a die through all studs and replacing nuts with stainless items for ease next time around!

Still, in the end it only took a couple of hours.

Thats my awful experience from last Saturday!

Quick update,, Did this a few days ago and it was a bloody doddle... Someone else did it. :D :D :D :D :D

Seriously, only took a few hours and all the bolts/nuts were fairly straightforward, came undone without too much messing about. Lambda sensor came away with the weld round the exhaust, but clamping this in a vice, made short work of releasing the sensor from the exhaust. Engine now as quiet as the proverbial church mouse. ;-) ;-)
