So I've recently passed my test and picking up a red T reg saxo next weekend.
I don't wanna spend loads on it because I only plan to keep for a year maybe 2 but I do want to make it non standard.
I'm going to get an open filter for it. With a 1litre does it need a CAF from the front of the car or can I avoid this?
Also with an exhaust, will any aftermarket pretty much fit?
Any other advise would be awesome

Avoid an open air filter,it will do nothing & make your car sound stupid.Fit a vtr/vts or 106gti interior to it.Then leave it build up your ncb & buy something better.

I'm tempted to put a 1.6 vt lump in once i get some on road experience.
What is different about the VT interior?

The vt interior looks smarter & is more comfy.

Defiantly fit VTR/S or 106 GTI interior in the car.
Decent panel filter, good service with a VTR back box maybe and leave it at that.
However, a 1.6 swap from either the VTR 8v or the VTS 16v would make it a good little sleeper!!

If you want an open cone filter, do it! Wouldnt make or lose any power being a 1.1 but would make it sound a bit better.
Lose as much weight as you can, straight through exhaust etc.
If you plan on getting a VTR/VTS in a year or 2, spend money on the 1.1 then just transfer the bits across

Wont need one and will be pretty pointless tbh, can do it for the looks though if you really want aha

if you want to, add an open air filter on, they don't increase performance all they do is add bait of noise, but not much. No you don't need a CAF, it will do absolutely nothing to a 1.1. Tbh I've got a BMC CDA which i quite like, expensive though (luckily i got mine from a friend who crashed his car and gave me bits free). In my opinion and knowledge of mechanics CAF only reason make a noticeable difference on tuned/high performance cars. People will tell you to get a panel filter for performance but again, the gains will be minimal, you won't notice a thing with a 1.1. Also if you want to stick a 1.6 in, why don't you get a 1.6 to start with? If you don't, then you'll have a more powerful engine on a car thats not designed to have that engine in, e.g. brakes, suspension etc...
on a 1.1 all you can really do is make it looks better than it really is. Hell i love my saxo to bits, but god they're shit!
At the end of the day its your car, do what you want to do, of course you will be judged for some things you do as are all of us, but if your choice, fuck em!

1.6 vt is far too much to insure on my first year if I'm honest

but if you put a 1.6 lump in it, it'll bump the insurance up around the same price. and as your new to driving if you crash, your fucked, they'll see you have a 1.6 and won't pay a penny

I'd just run it as it is fella and just go (if you want) straight to a VTS to save conversion aggro.

As prickle says don't do a conversion,as a lot of insurance companies won't touch it.or if they do it'll be high premiums.

It's an early saxo. A lot of crap will go wrong with it/ mots and stuff.
If your going to do any mods, just change the manifold on it, exhaust system.
Chances are you'll damage your car within your first year anywhos.
There will be one night you push yourself too far.

That's not possible - it's a 1.0! I think you meant louder, not nicer.

no point in spending any money for mods on a 1.0 , you'll just get a ticket for more problems. As mentioned, most insurance companies won't touch you or charge you 3-4 times+ what the car is worth.
That said, just put the money on decent tyres and a service, that's a much better investment.

It feels nippy, probably it's your first car and secondly saxo's are pretty lightweight.:drink:
