I am currently collecting goodies for my project, will be using the gt17 (bought a recon one) and am wondering what camshaft to use? I have the origanal which I was going to put back in as I have fitted a piper ultimate road camshaft (8v roller rocker). I will be using no more than 7/8psi so low boost, my question is would I be able to use the piper cam or should I use standard? or even better has anyone tried a fast road cam(not turbo specific) on their turbo project? Thanks in advance

Can't really comment on different cams, but I'm currently using a standard cam on my boosted vtr, and all is fine, don't know what sort of gains can be had from an aftermarket cam.

i ran a piper 275 in my boosted 8v, worked very well anything over that will cause problems
don't listen to all the crap about roller rockers either, i did over 10k miles on roller rockers raving to 7600 and never had an issue (i did have piper springs though)

I'm not worried about the roller rockers as there hitting 7k at moment with piper springs and have been fine, I'm using the piper ultimate road 285 at moment, why its called a 285 I dnt no as I swear it was 260-270 duration on roller rocker, i think the piper cam can stay , thanks. may I ask what management you both are using?

you shouldn,t need to rev as hard with boost --so wild cam not the right way -start with std cam

i'm currently using a predator 3 plug ecu, and he's right ^^ I only have to have partial throttle and i'm away :y: i'm only running low boost and it's bloody fun!

Thanks again, just looked up spec of cam I have fitted( piper 285) and it is 264/264 inlet exhaust duration, not exactly wild perhaps? Could it suite or just work from standard cam? Islayer may I ask what size injectors you have fitted and bhp? I have finally found injectors the same size as the vtr after buying a few sets (2nd hand but once tested will be cleaned properly) will be using bosch brown ones with 370cc at 3 bar, to big ? Probably

Id have thought standard cam be better, at low revs youd be off cam power and off boost. Be doooogg slow

then swapped to a DTA S60
still have he DTA but now running a fully forged JP4 with solid lifters and turbo cams

I have 329cc saab injectors, and I have 160hp on 8psi :)

are they not a little longer? I had issue with the slightly longer injectors as am using the rallye inlet and couldn't get them sitting right, the dta ecu is what my local mapper prefers which is a bonus, my only big spend will be on the ecu and mapping, it's between dta and omex.

Hopefully use them then , thats a good number and must be a good crack, I'm aiming for similar power and anything more is a bonus, it's a track car so I just need to keep it reliable as it will be used and abused when on track

your best bet is to ditch the rally inlet, they make the engine very laggy, the turbo came in 2k rpm earlier with a plastic inlet
