View Full Version : Heat wrapping Cat

Hi guys,
I have just fitted a new aftermarket cat on my mk2 VTR, however there is no heat shield.
I am slightly worried about temps and how hot the oil filter might get. Should I be?
Would heat wrap be a sensible solution? Can it damage the cat in anyway?
Many thanks

No need what so ever.

The heat shield is not to help heat the cat, but to avoid damage to the chassis or the cat itself depending on which side you look

Damage to the chassis?! Does it melt the chassis?!
It's just to try keep the temps down, and keep them down low in the bay!

Cats don't like being wrapped up in stuff.
Trust me they get very "scratchy".

Unless you wrap them in lots of bacon and put them in the even.

Okay, so not to worry?
Just alarmingly close to the plastic oil filter cover.

you could swop over the original one to new one

Didn't look like it would just swap over. The new cat has been fitted for a week now, the car has been driven through town in rush hour and down M11/A14 a number of times without problems, so hopefully it's sweet :)
Very much enjoying the 1.4 center section and Supersprint back box too! :)
