urgent! would this engine fit

thinking of something different with ma saxo as everyone seems to do the same old stuff with jus doing slight engine mods etc...

come across a peeeeejot 205 gti 1.6 complete engine

now one would this fit and two what do u recon

Its not a straight fit. You can make it fit if you have the budget.

No idea to be honest. But surely after all the effort with fabricating mounts, loom work etc. (not very savvy with this stuff) you could get a JP4S engine that would be a much better base to go with over a older 205 engine.

Pointless exercise. The XU engines are an old design, they are not a tidy setup either with a mountain on hoses within the cooling system and the oil vapour. Power is no better than the 1.6 Saxo engines then there's the extra pain in the arse of the dizzy setup & fine tuning the timing whereas the TU engines offer more consistency

Like Willsy says. Lots of work for no gain. TU 16v engine is on par performance wise with no hassle fitment. If you want to fit an engine similar then the Peugeot EW engines are very tunable but you wont have fun fitting it..

right now i dont understand half the stuff h lot have written here but i can clearly see that its pointless me getting it

but in terms of everything else....

i aint got a clue what half u lot on about with your 'TU 16V Engine' 'XU' how about you tell me what model it is or something... i aint used to these coded stuff or forum stuff

TU and XU are the engine designations. Generally all the older cars run XU lumps as the TU was fairly new at the start of the 90's.

The 16v they're on about is the TU5j4 fitted to the VTS and 106 GTI. Not sure if they used them in the 306 and Xsaras, or any others for that matter.

The reason the XU derived lumps are harder to fit is because they're typically bigger and heavier and mount differently. Yes it has been done, but it isn't a cheap easy job

the XU is harder to fit as it sits at 30 degrees, not the essentially bolt upright of the TU, the exhaust is on the rear, inlet on the front.

the XU5 8v engine is actually a good chunk lighter than the TU5, probably an easy 20 kilos if not more, the iron block 2.0's are a different matter, though not significantly heavier than the TU5.

they do have the stronger BE gearboxes on them as standard which is a bonus.

the main issue is that the saxo/106 engine bay was never deigned for anything other than a TU engine, so space was cut down massively, the design brief for the 205 was to make a cheap hatchback for the masses using the XUD engine, just happened that the alloy petrol version sat at the same angle, and the space was more than enough for the TU that was used in later base model cars.

Or you could try typing "TU 16v engine" into Google and finding out for yourself. Want us to buy and fit the engine for you too? God forbid you might even try using the search function at the top of the page.

TU 8v's have been kicking around in 205's from about 1983 :p, the 16v version was new though
