Hi all. Just fitted a piper four branch ex manifold and the clearance to the alternator plastic cover is about 3mm. Going to make a spacer at top of alt to kick it out abit and possibly fit a longer belt or existing on most slackened off adjustment. Any body had similar?

Just heat wrap the manifold problem solved

Yes Milney, that had crossed my mind, but still a lot of heat so close. It's only hillclimb use, so not in hours of traffic. Maybe I'll just wrap that one branch as its all on now. Cheers.

Just get the alternator brackets and belt from a VTR, that moves the alt miles away compared to the 16v setup, and is much easier to adjust too.

Yeah I'm using a piper 4 branch on mine. I thought the same when fitted, but heatwrapped it and I've had no probs with it been on over a year now.

Is it just a straight swap to do this?

Yeah man, Ive done it on mine. Get the VTR brackets and bolt them to the block, and use a VTR belt as its slightly shorter. The actual alternator is the exact same, so fits no problem :)

Does it matter what vtr engine the alternator bracket is taken off? I.e mark1 or mark2.

Fitted mk1 vtr brackets, mk2 alt on my mk2 2001 vts. All good. Loads of clearance. Just gotta tap out block holes which are m8 thread.

very important they will be full of rust having never been used --try boltsin before fitting bracket to make sure they don,t go tight before clamping bracket--simple i know but you would be suprised how many times i,ve found silly things like this cause problems on home builds

Mine is ex uk, and not often in Guernsey do we salt roads,so bottom of block a bit rusty. But managed to re tap them out. By the way Gents. Best way of bleeding vts cooling system? No stat fitted.
