Just curious as to what BHP figures can be achieved from a VTR phase 2 engine without a turbo.

Engine mods to date:
Piper 4-1 stainless steel decat manifold
Custom built full stainless exhaust system
K and N panel air filter.

Roughly running 110bhp

I would be more than happy with 150bhp

Is this achieveable?

What engine mods will be best and provide biggest gains?

Finally what's it likely to cost to me?

Advice very much appreciated

To get to 150bhp you'd need a turbo.

you could probably get around 120 bhp with a port and polished head with upgraded cam.

If you spent 5K plus you could probably get to 150 bhp with a ITB setup.

It would be quite easy to get 150 bhp with a turbo setup with a 8v lump. Look in the progress threads theres quite a few being made at the moment.

Also remember that other parts may need upgrading or at least replaced with new ones. Clutch, driveshafts, gearbox etc. And the ecu will need remapping or you would need to go for a standalone system which adds to the cost.

That's the issue with the 8v, once you've done the usual bits and get it up to around the figures you suggest yours has then there is very little room for movement at least cheaply anyway. There was a chap with a naturally aspirated 8v making 155bhp or there abouts. Was a rallye unit with a lot of money spent on the head and itbs thusly making it very costly. Same way making a race spec 1.4 8v make that figure, it's whitely possible if it's by some of the engine tuners and builders out but then that's serious money spending.
As said Turbo it or get a set of decent cams in a 16v and suitable remap should see you nearer that figure. Turboing a vtr is very popular as the engines are more or less free if it does go pop plus more room for the components in the bay

no need for a turbo, just a different cam and ITB's, maybe some head work and piston mods, or different pistons, but 150 shouldn't be difficult to get at all, however it wont be "cheap"

Thanks for commenting ppl,

Next steps will be port and polish head + fast road cams.

Anyone got any good links to some ITB's

Can you buy throttle bodies specifically for vtr?
