View Full Version : saxo vts power gains

Hi, I'm currently part way through getting a mk2 vts track ready. I've just had it weighed and it's sitting at 812kg but I've still got a few other bits to do like poly windows, sunroof etc. My attention is now turning to engine mods and I'm just wondering what sort of power to expect from the following and if there's any accompanying things to do with what I have planned.
S/s manifold 4-2-1
Straight through decat exhaust
Decent induction kit
Ported head
Cat cams 743 camshafts (advise anything else?)
Ecu remap

Is there anything else worth doing to compliment the above?

Thanks, dan

how long is a piece of string, and how much money do you have.

anything else

turbo

A turbo is a huge upgrade in its own right, I was meaning if I do the above work are there any little bits and bobs worth doing at the same time? For example is it worth having the valves made bigger while the head is off and already being worked on? Or is that a waste of time and money? Just general advice would be appreciated :/

Have the brakes and suspension been upgraded?

Again not what I'm asking for! I'm not an idiot who thinks it's a good idea to make a car fast, do nothing else then go and die in it. It has apex suspension, brembo brakes, kevlar bucket seats, sparco roll cage etc etc. I have just sold my last build which was a 280bhp 5 turbo and really just want some advice from the people that know about saxos!

Should make 150 BHP pretty straight forward maybe a tad more.

Could go for some throttle bodies if you want more power.

Thanks jack, throttle bodies are a step too far for me as it's only gonna be for a bit of track fun and I'm aiming for 150/160 bhp so seems like I'm on the right track.

if you havent I would upgrade the bushes and engine mounts. Obviously you arent an idiot so you may of already done them, but id do them over cams.

Ive been there when it comes to cams and remap, then i went on to throttle bodies, i honestly would not bother with cams and a remap on their own, for me it was just disapointing.

As for the 150 or more bhp, well that depends on what rolling road you go on. I know a fair few that were RR @ around 140 with cams (altho they were 708s, not sure what the cams you have are like).

I got 158/154hp (2 different rolls) in my 106 Gti with 4-2-1, decat 2", 743 and remap

If you doing serious track, I would look at something better than apex suspension . Not that they aren't good but will leave you wanting. Maybe a diff too perhaps with the power you are aiming for?
I think with the mods you have on the engine it should make a very fun car, should make somewhere near those figures you list

Bushes have all been done but engine mounts are not something I had thought about tbh. The apex suspension was the right price but may be upgraded to a better setup in the future. I would be happy with 150+ bhp as the car will be under 750kg when finished so should be more than capable, thanks for the advice.

Engine mounts are one of the first things I would have done tbh. BakerBM and KamRacing have good options. For a track car I'd be going for 'Group A' solid mounts to be honest. I'm sure you won't mind cabin vibration.

This formula has worked for American cars for years lol Its simply a matter of understanding what you have got.

Same with the Apex suspension. Get out on track and use the thing instead of saving for upgrades and delaying having fun.

Personally I would go a different route and fit a plate diff before engine mods.

That's the plan with the suspension, use and take it from there. What's the quaife unit like that you sell kam?

Far from it but when a question is asked about something in particular, there's no need for people to jump on it with unhelpful and condescending comments.

best place to spend money would be a c/r gear kit +lsd or a much lower crownwheel+pinion with lsd--std gearing or any cit/pug std gear kit fromany MA box are too high for proper car --you aibn,t got the bhp to pull those gearings

If you going boost --then for track use a s/c is far superior --no lag -you drive it just like an N/A car --take a look at "sexy gt"--he is winning some time attack rounds in his
turbo+big boost is for drag racing or rwd -not for FWD
have alook at sexygt vids in the track forum

Its a fit and forget helical Limited slip diff (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/car-tuning/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-transmission/lsd-limited-slip-differential/citroen-saxo-quaife-atb-lsd-vtr-vts.html), giving extra traction through the corner and as you exit the bend. I rate this as one of the best modifications anyone can do to a car.

As I was intimating to at the beginning of the thread and not being made aware of the suspension upgrades, others have now told you about there being far more factors than engine power. But hey ho.

better than nothing --but final drive is still to high --and make sure you get pinion shaft to go with it
