Question about TU5J4 cam cover pipe

Hello Saxperience, I have a question regarding my TU5 motor's inlet cam cover, in particular the little pipe that goes to the intake manifold, what is its purpose and is it okay if it's blocked off, as I intend to run a vacuum gauge to that port on the manifold?
I have attached a picture and circled the pipe in question in white, thanks for reading!

yes that will be fine
but why not fit a "t piece" in the vac pipe that goes to the FPR instead
