hi there I'm new to this site I've got a y reg mk2 sax vtr and am looking at doing some mods to it I've heard you can put the 1.1 gearbox on it for better acceleration just want to know if its true and if so can i still use my vtr clutch many thanks.

Straight fit, the clutch is fitted to the engine so doesn't need touching. use the driveshafts from the VTR.
the box is a LOT shorter than the VTR one, but a VTS/GTI box will be better as the diffs bigger and you still get some headroom speed wise (mine used to top out at 115 on the 1.1 box). it feels quicker but you're also changing gears sooner and more often which hampers things.
don't expect it to take massive abuse either, mine lasted about 2 years though!

Makes a good difference compared to the standard vtr box!
