I know plenty of 16v engines in the VTS and 106gti etc have had cam belts fail.
However I was wondering if anyone has had a cambelt let go on a 1.6 8v VTR?

How far have people pushed or risked going past the replacement interval?

There is no more of a risk of timjng belt failure with a 16v compared to an 8v....

Its strange how I cant find a single case of a VTR cambelt failure on the internet, yet for the 16v VTS there is absolutely loads.

The 16v has an extra layer of complexity being the exhaust cam pulley I suppose, easier for people to fuck the belt replacement up or not bother due to it being slightly harder to perform. 8vs are super easy to replace plus the belt is a lot cheaper than 16v. Don't forget loads of other citroens had the 1600 8v fitted

I agree with the 16v one being easier to get wrong, although it's still pretty easy from what I remember.

Are all the 8v engines in Peugeots and Citroens the same? My girlfriends old Peugeot 206 1.1 looked the exact same engine as my VTR.

Ive had one go on a 8v 1.1, (80,000 recommended change), 96,000 on clock, obviously the owner at 80k (not me) decided it wasn't important.
