Right hi all, new here so don't give me too much stick if I've put this in the wrong place etc..
But I got a 2000 saxo vtr, if I'm driving normally and change into to 2nd or downshift into second it's fine, but if I do it like a quick shift it crunches? It only does it in second and if I'm changing gear quick it doesn't do it? Anyone got any ideas they will be much appriceated!

Also my air filter cone fell off when driving were it was bodged by previous owner 🙄 Anyone recommend any decent make air filters, don't wanna buy a cheap just plain one as done this on a bike not so long ago and drawed in too much air, got another and wasent drawing in enough!
Cheers

Meant to say if I'm changing into gear normally (slow and smooth) it doesn't crunch, but as soon as I do it slightly quick or drop out the clutch quick it does it but only in 2nd

Synchromesh between 1st and second. You can baby it, change the oil and put some Lucas stabilizer in it and it may reduce the crunching. Ideally its a gearbox off job and replace the synchromeshes.

The clutch fork might also be bent at the pivot preventing the clutch from engauging fully.

Start the car, press the clutch and select reverse. Leave it there for a few seconds, put it back to neutral and back in to reverse (All while not lifting off the clutch). If it crunches, you may have a clutch issue.

It could also be your gear selector rods. I replaced mine for Constella Group N items and neglected to grease them up before fitting and it made my gear change horrible.

will give that a try to see if it crunches, it kinda is as if it's the clutch but then it will only do in second gear which makes me think it's gearbox related,
had a quick scan over earlier, sorted out the previous owners mess were he seemed to have jones random pipes on the engine to the complete wrong things 🙄
But I've just gotta try narrow this problem down, I've go mates breaking vtr and will sell me gearbox for £50 so if it is the synchromesh would I be cheaper off getting new box?

Defo cheaper to get a new box unless you fancy a go at opening the magical box (most mechanical decent minded people would not want to, including myself) try getting some pictures and putting them on here of your gear linkages behind the gearbox could possibly have a nylon bush that's cracked or fucked, and for the air intake personally I prefer cold air intakes as cold air is much denser than the warm air inside the engine bay thus you will get more oxygen into the combustion process. Always go for an enclosed kit though regardless, otherwise you will get problems from heat soak.

Gearbox for £50 is a no-brainer if it's known to be a good box. It's ultimately going to be the cheapest, easiest option IF the synrchos are gone.

If you're taking the gearbox off the engine, do you think your mate would be arsed with the hassle of posting the engine itself? I could do with a VTR bottom end.

I'll see how it goes gunna try check clutch out and if it's the gearbox I'll just get the new one in then, and the engine is shot to bits mate that's the reason it's braking I'll ask him about buttom end but chances are its fucked lol,

I will probably yeh a short shift if I change gearbox over so while I do it I can get the short shift in 😎😜
Suprised recently just bought my vtr and the parts are so cheap, I've gone from an Audi A3 to one of these little pocket rockets and I'm so suprised how cheap everything is!!
