Can anyone tell me how to dial these cams in correctly?
I rebuilt the entire engine myself but, as it was my first time running uprated camshafts, i forgot that i would have to time them correctly.
So i just used the standard timing holes to lock everything into place.
The engines runs, but having problems at idle running to lean and sometimes very rough especially when fully warm, it stutters abit when driving at a constant speed and under 2500revs.
The ECU is mapped (previous owner), was spitting flames constantly and it revs to ~7600, would consider getting it remapped if dialing in the cams doesnt make it much better.
As the engine is completely new (200 miles), i havent reved the new one higher than 4k.
So is there a way to dial these cams in without getting yourself a dial gauge, removing the cam covers and meassuring lift at TDC? Should be 1.8mm both intake and exhaust?
Engine spec:
Skimmed head and engineblock
Ported head
Compression Ratio ~11.4
Newman PH3 Cams
Raceland Exhaust Manifold
Cold AirIntake
2" exhaust system

For all a cam timing disc and dti will cost you, its worth investing and getting it right. About £40 or the equivalent will buy you one of each and youre better off paying that than whatever a remap will cost you.

you need a map whatever you decide to do.
the angle wheel you can make yourself, but you do need a dial gauge.

What do you mean with "dti"?
So it might run pretty good when i've dialed in the cams?
So basically i should do it like this, http://www.catcams.co.uk/acatalog/Cam_Timing.html

dti is a dial gauge.

maybe, but it will need a map regardless.

I've dialed them in, Idle is a bit better but still rough especially when the fan switches on.
Revs still fall to low when you press the clutch, no stalling...
Will fit a wideband to see my afr's and if it is save to run like this.
I know that i need a remap to see the full potential, but i couldnt find anyone so far who knows how to remap a single plug ecu.

DTI means 'Dial Test Indicator'.
It will need a remap, as already stated, and that should also include optimising the cams on the dyno while doing the remap (a proper remap, not a joke-shop re-flash) because the cam timing affects the volumetric efficiency which affect the fueling which needs addressing in the fuel map; so it's best to have it all done at the same time.
Idle control should also be addressed to sort the stalling on overrun too.
You also would save the cost of a degree wheel, DTI, Stand etc (unless you're going to use them again some day)

I've borrowed everything from a friend of mine, so didnt cost me anything.
Isnt the remap supposed to be written to run the engine like it is dialed in? Done it exactly as Newman says to do it -> 1.8mm Lift @ TDC.
Here in Austria it is a bit hard to find someone who can remap your car, cause none of the chiptuners in Graz do have a dyno, or do know something about the single plug ecu.
Everything gets a remap via OBD2, so you drive in and after 5min you're done, because everyone drives VAG, BMW and they couldnt be less botherd to remap a naturally aspirated engine or dont even know how to dial in camshafts.
I've owned my VTS for more than a year now and never! ever seen another VTS driving round by hazard. A friend of mine has a 106GTI, and another mate has a Saxo VTS but lives 250km away, so they are very very rare here in Austria.
Most of the Saxo/106 driving around are crappy shitboxes with 1.1 engines, driven by middle aged women.
Everyone here says chipwizards is good but, i am not going to drive nearly 2000km in one direction to get a remap ;)

its not 2000 km, its 1800 :D
I have been to Graz, took us one day to drive in a 205 gti.

your other option is something like an AEM fic controller which is an adjustable unit that goes between ecu+engine --but along with that you would need to fit a wideband lambda system +gauge ,so you can see the fuel mixture --then you can do it on the road yourself,
only down side to aem unit is you cannot advance igntion timings --only retard them -must be somebody closer than uk to austria--Italy ?-marrelli ecu very common on fiats etc
must be done as live mapping on a dyno to be correct --maybe you want to start doing it yourself = start charging others--I have a dyno for sale cheap --trying to retire
