Does anyone know what all the plastic behind the rear bumper is for? I know the bumper connects to it, but I'm sure the big grey lump of plastic could be ditched and new bumper connections fitted.

If its directly mounted / attached to the bumper skin it would be to absorb some of the impact during a crash.

Not essential then as it's gonna be a track car. Cheers think I'll ditch it.

:mental::mental:It's suprising what weight can be dropped! Whilst looking into ditching the rear crash bar I discovered some seriously impacted mud up under the rear wheel arch plastic covers. After much scraping I collected it up - 1kg of 16 years worth of mud removed, and that's just on one side !!!!

You'll need to flat floor the rear end/fit diffuser as the bumper will have no strength it'll catch the wind and flap about. Unless you cut it so air can't gather under the boot floor.

I've drilled it quite a bit, so hoping that'll help with airflow.
