No you are right. It will reduce backpressure. No harm really, won't have as much low down power as before but up the rev range it will improve.

so im not losing really as i will gain more up the rev range?
Colin

It will drive and feel different. You will lose " Poke " from like, 2-3k but gain a little up the rev range.
VTRs have good low down torque anyway.

Yea i got a 4-2-1 manifold, Magnex De-cat, Ashley comp exhaust and it sounds awsome atm, cant wait to remove middle silencer, the pipe only cost me £50 so if it sounds shit ill take it off.

speak to the guy at gmc. he knows. one of the mistaken facts about backpressure is that if you have non you loose opower but its wrong. the lesser the backpressure the more power you will have. but yes you will loose a little lowdown torque. but who uses low down when your flat out?

as col sax says ya will lose on low revs ive had mine full stainless dulpex with no center box it pops a bit the best way is to decat it but i may be wrong

nothing anyone has described in this post is "back pressure" and its the most mis-understood thing about modding cars (apart from vtrs that can do 60 in 2nd or cams that give 20+bhp)
everything is a compromise, you cannot just bolt something on without affecting something else, as long as you know what you want and what you can live wit you can choose, but you cant have everything. :D

Alot of people get very confused by 'Back pressure'.
But in laymans terms for a NA tuned engine I think Im rite i thinkin . . .
A Single box (back box only) with a 4-1 manifold will give greater high end power.
Where as . . .
A Twin Box (centre + back box) with a 4-2-1 manifold will giver greater low down to mid range power.
Please correct me if Im wrong :-)

your correct!!!
Just got rid of a omp exhaust with a twin box section, seem to give me a really good bottom end
replaced it with a ashley single box which gives me more up the top end

How did the two compaire noise wise?
Had an Ashley twin box system 3"tp on a Mk3 XR2i years ago and a 4branch manifold nice raspy note - had Peco back boxes that where louder tho :homme:
Whats the quality like of both heard bad things about the Ashley system on the Saxo just wondered if it was true
leeroybrown

the omp was ok not bad quality nice noise but queit
the ashley is noisey but has the best sound by far and the quality is ok
performance and noise wise the ashley all the way
out of the 4 group of mates i know who have saxo we have all had ashleys and loved them to bits

Oh er missis :-)
I think people look past Ashley systems because of 1) being mild steel, people think its going to fall apart first time it rains. and 2) the price, people think somethin that cheap cant be any good, I'll just pay more for a Magnex instead.
