How can I check if the HG is changed properly?Can compression test show that?

What if the compression is higher/lower than nominal?

I'm having problem on 1.1 with cooling after HG change.

Did you (or whoever did the work) bleed the cooling system the correct way?

Engine off and cold. using a bottle upside down in the radiator. Bleed the radiator, thermostat housing and then the heater matrix cap in that order?

If the warning light isn't on, it's not overheating.

There are 2 sensors, one coolant sensor is for the warning light inside the car, the other is for the ECU temp reading.

The fan is controlled by a separate switch on the radiator.

If the radiator is cold, it could be a stuck thermostat. that's like a 5 euro fix. but you absolutely MUST bleed the coolant the correct way after changing it.

The heater in the car has NO effect on the cooling system, as it is "always open" with no valve for the water flow.

Since 1.1 doesn't have eng. temp gauge only warning light I would like to install this

Can I replace eng temp sensor that is in engine head with this universal sensor or I have to use this combination and cut the hose before thermostat .

I would put it in the top hose, yes.

Thanks Martin,there are a lot of interesting gadgets like oil pressure or temp gauge,voltage... that you can play with and add on central console or somewhere else, so I was thinking first to start with this one.Since eng temp. sensor is connected to ECU, and it's probably not a good idea to disconnect that, I think you suggestion does make sense.

Yes best to keep it well away from any of the standard points.

I have my oil pressure and temperature fed from a sandwich plate behind the oil filter. just makes things easy.

I installed one of those gauges for coolant in the picture, its been working great for almost 2 years :) it was dumb of citroen to not make a temp gauge on the diesel and only a bulb, which pretty much means the engine is toast at that point<br><br>Sent from my SM-T560 using Tapatalk<br><br>

Nah the 1.5D is good for cooling :) I roasted mine on track with a supercharger and it still didn't get hot.

To be fair, you're right that all the petrol engines get hot really quickly.

Probably all in the design of the cylinder head I think

Great to hear first hand experience, It's not that expensive to do that and it can save you a lot of trouble.

I found a digital gauge worked better, i bought a normal one with the needle and it wasnt reading accurately, but thats just maybe coincedence dont know exactly. I used the gauge in the picture and the extension to insert in the top radiator hose i think that was around 34mm cant remember exactly. I grounded the sensor with a fire to the power steering bracket. The sensor wire (green) i routed to the back of the fender and into the cabin.
