my westy has a plastic throttle body, it looks a bit tacky, is it possible to fit a proper metal one on?

are you talking about the throttle body itself or the whole inlet system? as on most cars that is just plastic, its the butterfly which is the tb which is the metal part. I would have thought this would be the same on your car, as a plastic butterfly wouldnt be much use.
