i have just bleed the coolent system and put the coke bottle on and filled it up half way had the egine runnih for about 40 minits till the fan came on but just b4 the fan came on the water in the bottle shot up and was just about to over fill so i quickly turnt off the engine the fan then came on and the wter shot up even more and had a big cloud of steam as water hit the heat sheld why did the water shot up? and how long should it normly take for the fan to come on fort 40 minits was pretty long

it wil come on as soon as it reaches its normal running temp.were did u bleed it from? u must always bleed it from the highiest point of the cooling system.
if that is done properly and the water is shooting out!! then bad news.the head gasket has gone.the pressure is building up and not being allowed to escape around the engine

when you're bleeding the system, are you doing it by having the rad cap off? that what it sounds like, if so then put the cap on tight and bleed it through the bleed screw at the top corner of the rad first.

i bleed it from all 3 bleeds i fort i had to leave the coke bottle on and have it half full till the fan kicks in but just befor the fan kicked in it shot up was that the thermostat opening i have just changed it

Bleed it from both points, Fill bottle back up, undo the bolt above the thermostat until water starts coming out do it up, do the same with the lower bleed point, Fill up done,

If you think your gasket might be gone also check the water in the radiator bottle, It should be fairly clear, If it has oil in it then the gasket has gone.

Dont quote me on the first bit as i did it a fair while ago and its only vaige to my memory, Just keep an eye out of where the water is going as if its disapearing then that could also mean a gasket has gone as the water is going places it shouldnt,

Hope that is some help m8

Worth stick some rad clean in tehre aswell while your at it.

what are you on about coke bottle? it will shoot up if you have any part of the system open, the cooling system is a pressurised system. sounds like it's working fine, you're just doing something wrong.

so i take it i read it wrong and after i have used the coke bottle to get water out all 3 bleeds i was ment to take it off and put the cap on then run the engine till fan comes on right?

fuck the coke bottle. put the cap on and bleed through the bleed screws. headgasket being knackered wouldn't cause the level to rise, as knackered h/gasket=leak=loss of pressure in the system.

i have read a cuple of places that i use the coke bottle as a header tank or some thing o yeah and the water was brown hasnt been changed in over 2 years but i flushed the system and refilld it

what i read Bleeding The System

Before we start i must insist that you get a propper header tank to sit into the expansion tank (costs about £18.00 from citroen) This will savle you alot of time if any air is trapped in the heater matrix.

There Are 3 Bleeding Points That Need To Be Done In Sequence Starting With The Lowest.

Open All Bleeding Points Up Until A Steady Supply Of Water Emerges without Bubbles.

Bleed Points Are:

1. Top Right Of The Radiator(Small Plastic Clip)
2. Top Of Thermostast Housing (5mm Allen Key, Just Right Of The Rocker Cover)
3. Drivers Side Of Engine, Looks Like A valve cap

Keep the water and antifreeze going in until a trickle of water shoots out of the first bleeding point without stopping... do this for the other 2 and then leave car on fast idle (1000rpm) until the fan kicks in 2 or 3 times...

then got told Header tank is a tool they use at citreon and other garages, but a homemade one can be made using un upturned bottle with the bottomcut off and sealed around the expansion tank

and yes this is the correct way and just to advise you this is normal for the water level to raise up and over flow just before the fan kicks in its when the thermostat opens if you had left it running the level should drop right down ............... but if the fan doesent kick in then you will have major problems basical you have either a fucked head or head gaskets gone
please be advised it could be a hole in the head if you get the h/g changed get it crack tested
