Hi i'm new to the forum so thought i would introduce myself! My question is, i've just fitted a pipercross to my MK2 51 plate VTR and apart from being really loud it doesn't seem to have done much performance wise. Has anyone got a pipercross on their VTR and whats the best position to have it in? I currently have it like the instructions show but i'm thinking i might extend it down to the front of the engine where there will be cold air getting to it (i have a cold air feed at the moment).

Is the filter jus a standard pipercross one??? If it is and u want a filter thats goin to give a bit of power increase then your better goin for a BMC air filter or a green enclosed one which should give around 5bhp on its own! Ive got a standard pipercross on my VTR and really it only sounds nice!!! and yeah mine is fitted like it says on the instructions!!!! hope i helped!!!

I use to have a K&N induction kit and found the same as you have, nice sound not much bhp increase. Since then i`ve upgraded to a Pipercross Viper which has given me an increase of bhp that i can feel the best bet is to get an enclosed system if its xtra power that your after smileys/smiley17.gif

when you say not done much performance wise, how do you know this? An induction kit alone won't give a noticeable increase in performance. Only when matched to a performance exhaust and some other bits will you notice a serious increase in power.

but the problem with normal induction kits is heat soak... for best performance increase. you need the keep the air from mixing with the hot air around the engine.

yeah. From the sounds of it he has a cold air feed so that shouldn't be the problem. 5 bhp increase is about 5% increase in power, would you really expect to notice that too much?

I used to have a pipercross with a massive cold air feed but it still made little difference as the back of the filter was still taking in loads of warm air i chose to go for a BMC filter as mentioned before and found that the sound isnt as loud but is alot deeper and performance wise is much better. Hope that helps. smileys/smiley4.gif

its all very well gettin a pipercross or nay performance filter but as the engine is gettin say 800 cubic feet a min instead of 150 standard(estimates) its still gettin the same amout in fuel,so wats the advantege,in real terms ur probably gettin worse performance but it sound loud so u think its cool.with moden engines u cant ajust the fueling,un less you get a adjust fuel press reg, such as a poeer boost valve, with out this the car runch super lean, damagingthe engine and in worse case(mine)the ecu shuts down and goes to safe mode, this uses shit loads of fuel and makes it drive like a pile of shit, the cars leav the factory set up perfectly, get a press reg or a chip so u can adjust the feul on the standard ecu(best way)
sorry to type so much but i hope i have helped somewhat, and the bmc and viper are the best by far.all mods in the engine requre something else moddin to make it effective.donny

don55 dont forget about the green enclosed thats second only to the bmc enclosed!! And its true wot u said mods will make a difference slightly but u wont get the full advantage unless u adject ur ecu!! smileys/smiley14.gif

yeah get that sorted and ur winning, all the claims on the adds and boxes are all so misleading, there chatting complete shit, like the "VIPER" claims 10bhp,nonsence is all i can say.either way its not gona be cheap, but at is.
