Iv just bought a saxo on friday its a 1.4 for abit of fun and i was wonderin who has one because i have some issues, i like to go to track days and i went to one on saturday and the car seems slow, what sorts of speed do people get out of these? I was hittin 85mph and the engine was flat, wasnt gettin that many revs, but wen i put my foot down the rev counter wouldnt move and the car wudnt go any faster

im sure a 1.4 should go faster than 85mph lol

any ideas what could be up?

thanks alot, sry for newbie questions :(

you should be able to get 85 in 4th gear mate, well i know you can defo get 80 in 4th and should be able to get to 100 no probs!

it will do 85 in 4th, but then i put it into 5th and nothing happens, jst sits at the same ammount of revs no matter how far i go

Baz

does it so same if you put it in 5th at a lower speed doesn't go any quicker or just when you put it in at 85?

if i put it into 5th at about 60 it will slowly, and i mean very slowly go up to 75, didnt go any faster as the straight is only a mile or 2 lol

should be alot quicker than that mate, mine only has a de-cat and induction kit and mine will do 85 in 3rd, 115 flat out in fifth. check plugs and plug leads mate, or could be a sensor

i have to admit, once mine gets to 80 its a bit slow on its way to 100. depends how long you leave it in 4th i suppose. it will do 110 given the space though, and accelerates through the first few gears pretty well.

My old Westcoast was a little flat after 90, took a long time to get above 100.

It's probably fine mate, just remember the 1.4s ain't quick top end, it's mainly through the lower revs/gears.

I've got a 1.4 furio, induction kit, decat, backbox apart from that pretty standard. mine happily cruises down the motorway over 100 with ppl in the car. i cant give u advice as to why yours doesnt wana go past 85 as i'm tryin 2 learn bout cars, but it is possible xLx

clean the airfilter may be a good place to start
on my old westcoast like many people have said it felt a bit sluggish past 88-90 to accelerate
hope that helps

I think most people will agree first point of call is a full service, if your lookin at using the car for track days then it'll be a good idea to keep it well serviced if not overally serviced due to the kind of high revin and harse gear changes and general high demand on the car.

If the problem still prosists then get it check senors as they maybe gettin dud readings, also try some injector cleaner.

Remember a 1.4 will be no rocketship but should get you to and alittle bit over the ton. If after all this your still not happy start strippin out interior bits that are not need this may help.

i got 110 on clock but they arnt correct. if you want more speed and u want to keep 1400cc then theres alot of options some trade sercets that i cant let go tho :D:

simple things like

full exhaust system - let the whole engine breath right
a good induction kit - again let it breath
re map ecu with new cam and so on
try lose as much weight in car as possbile

remeber children weight is the killer of any car :borg:

and if you got loads money just get new engine parts and MAIN thing tune the head up to fcuk

manufacturer figures say 109mph tops

bbewekim
2nd March 2007, 10:29
Definately a fault somewhere, as my 1.1 will do 70 in 3rd gear... 105 in 5th, though it sits most comfortable at 90mph.

I think thats right SAM33R... Speedo should say about 115mph... which would more than likely equal to 109mph top.

also just to add.....in my 1.4 i put a 1.1 box in it.....

its quicker 0-60 BUT

at 3500rpm im getting 70mph :|

whearas with the original 1.4 box i was getting 90mph @3500rpm

:n: not good

if your saying that why do i go to 4k revs doing 80mph.....are we lieing?

VTR is doing more revs than that at 90!

SAM33R

mate, the 1.1 box is much shorter, and the 1.4 ratios are much longer, dunno what it is in comparison to the VTR box(about same i woulda thought)

and i didnt say anyones lying, im just saying :|

whats that gotta do with you doing '3.5k revs at 90mph'? when im my furio with 1.4 box does 4k at 80mph and ash in his VTR does 3.5k when doing 80....

In my 1.1 it is 3800 revs at 70mph. 4800 at about 90mph then 5300ish at 100+

my furio has a exhaust ad induction kit on ad ive had it round almost touching 130 going down hill. which was like 117 on my snooper.

so you definatly have something up there.

there's defintely something wrong with your furio mate
i got more speed out of mine no problem
i've put a pipercross induction kit in it
and a piper backbox sounds good though:)
