In my efforts to understand why my car is reving so high on tickover i want to know what part controls the automatic choke.

Where is it located and how does it actually work?

pics etc would also be a great help.

ecu controls idle.

is it possible to reset the ecu?

on my old v6 mondeo you could remove a couple of fuses or dissconect the battery for 15 mins and it would then reset and the relearn

ecu controls idle.

sorry, just re-read it again and you say ecu controls the idle? I thought thats what the stepper motor / idle valve did?

anyways, i want to know what controls the automatic choke.

yes the ecu controls the icv.. you will probably need a new idle control valve..

have tried a couple all be it second hand ones but not so sure now that this is the cause and wondered if it maybe more towards the auto choke thats the problem.

car does seem to smoke a bit when on tickover as if running a little rich
