the bhp of my saxo VTR being....

Its a 99 Mk1 VTR (silvertop) 92bhp standard.

-Supersprint Manifold
-S/S Decat
-Remus straight throught centre pipe
-Magnex S/S Backbox
-Pipercross Viper (enclosed, with cold air feed)
-Bosch Super 4 spark plugs

Serviced regularly, and running 10/40 fully synthetic Castrol magnatec oil.

Over 100bhp?

A very difficult question to predict I know, but just wondering as would be interested to know!

What I want to do this year: S1 Rallye throttle body, Cam + Pulley, and ported and polished head....any guesses what it could be running after this work..!?

Thanks, and yes I do know its difficult to predict bhp and no im not one of the tits that thinks an open air filter will give you 20 billion bhp lol, Im just interested to know roughly what my car is running atm and what itcould run after the wishlist work is done!

If its only got a 6bhp gain i would be very dissapointed if i was him

How many miles has it done?

shaggers_saxvtr

Trying to say a manifold, decat and full exhaust system along with a viper etc will only give approx 98bhp (obviously all cars lose some bhp over time) I was thinking easily over 100+....??!

60,000 Miles.

60,000 miles isnt a lot TBH. bottom end should still be pretty fresh if it's been well maintained.

It will be over 98bhp. Unless something has gone drastically wrong

shaggers_saxvtr
31st December 2006, 18:17
oh the good old ebay resister chip that adds 25bhp boiiii!! lol! I have ten in line so does that mean i have a 250bhp gain?!?! haha!

Yeh, cheers dude, was thinking around 105, will be going on the rollers in the new year sometime :)

10 resistors is pushing it, best stick to 8, should run fine around the 200 mark, lol

shaggers_saxvtr
31st December 2006, 18:20
bottom end sounds fine, all the miles have been in the last year since ive had the car as i bought it on 40,000 a year or so ago... :S! When its hot there is a bit off tapping top end but will be cleared when the headwork is done and tappets are checked....

Last time at Santa Pod I did a 16.8 @82.25mph with:

1.1 Box
Open pipercorss filter (Cr*p!)
Janspeed backbox, decat and standard centre box (centre pipe was a quick fix off a 1.1 and was very thin and restrictive as mine broke shortly before SP) and standard manifold...

When I do it next I will have all the mods I have listed in a previous post, along with possible an uprated clutch and either a VTS,1.1, or rallye box...!
Looking for a low 16 second 1/4mile..!

why dont you just stick a 16v engine in then you'll have a mid 15 second car straight away.

and be able to keep up with mine :y:

-Would rather have a quick, tuned VTR at my age (18) than a VTS..Plus insurance on an S is alot for me..
-I have a mk1 VTS too, drove it for a while, it was fast, and nice to drive, had some crahs damage from when i bought it, so took it off the road and repaired it and looks a very tidy car now..To be sold soon too..
-Also have a fiesta xr2i RS turbo conversion project on the go atm too...!
-Also got a 1.1 106 than I may do a 16V conversion in...so the VTR will stay a vtr, just quite tuned! :D

i ran 17.5 in my completely standard 90 bhp vtr, then with my full janspeed exhuast (inc, de cat and manifold) BMC induction kit i ran 16.4.

I would also say just over 100bhp.

90bhp standard isnt it?

i reckon 100 round about, spark plugs wont make a difference wil they?

100hp imo, give or take a few hp.

i think williams is spot on there, don't think you'll be seeing much more than 102 in all honesty! but get it RR'd and prove me wrong :p

my old vtr with 90k on the engine had, simota enclosed filter, supersprint 4-2-1 manifold and a supersprint backbox and it made 103bhp and 102lb/ft

Interesting stuff. Spark Plugs, well to be honest, no they wont do much, they just produce a better spark as there are 4 teeth ontop rather than just one...

Thanks for your comments :)

They wont give you an increase in bhp, so no they shouldnt make any difference.

I'd say about 102 bhp..

when you get the headwork and the cam thats where the freer flowing exhaust and mani will really come into play..

I recken it still wont be as fast as dan shitting his pants when that land rover hit him lol. But I would guess around the 100bhp mark

I think it safe to say around the magical 100bhp mark give or take a pony or two is on the money.

I agree about keepin the tuned 8v infavour of a standard 16v. I think people get too hung up on figures when its more how a car drives not how much power it deveoples. I would Always chooce a tuned engine over standard even if was less powerfull as its more about the complete package.

The insurance issue may also help :-)

Dan, correct. As I said al they do is meant to greate a better spark.

Saunders, Yes mate....LOL...nothing will go that quick! Poor Dan and his written off S..!

KamRacing: Want to sort me out with a pulley and cam sometime...?!

Once again, thanks for the comments guys :y:

Great, someone that agrees with me! Always loved my VTR apart from when I have gearbox problems...lol! So would like to keep it with the R lump and tune it, plus enjoy doing lots of work myself where and when i can.. :y:

i would say 100 -105bhp, will be a lot better with a cam and head work, then standard ecu remap.

get a gmc free power unit too, that mite help a few horses to escape :)
will have nice torque figure too with those mods :)

spark is a spark.

Orientation within the cylinder can be helpful. we're talking tenths of a hp benefit here.
