For My Remap With The Spec As Below.

williamsvts
31st December 2006, 18:53
yes they set cam timing 1st, then start to map it.

takes about 2 hours to do cams + belt. pretty easy imo if you know what to do. its all unbolt stuff and bolt back in. from experiance i can get the to idle fine straight away but it shouldnt take longer than 1/2 hour of fannying on to get then idling if your not sure.
only hint i would say there is would be to spray some WD40 in the back of your cam cover bolts the night before as these can sometime be a pain to get out.
also use the cam and crank locking holes so that you dont bend your valves.

nice one mate. the cam covers have been off a couple of times in the last 5 months since i did the conversion bit ill still spray some WD40 on them the night before mate. thanx;)

no, not the cam covers. the camBELT cvoer. in teh back of the allen bots, sometimes the insert they screw into just spins in teh plastic cover.

I would get a vernier pulley as they can adjust cam timing when doing your remap and this will help increase bhp how much is chip wizards charging for the remap i got myn mapped for £290+vat and he gained me 30bhp after finding a few engine problems and fixing a few things im now running around 120bhp on a vtr i thought he done quite a good job and price was great

williamsvts
31st December 2006, 19:12
vts' have adjustable pullies as standard mate.

williams is your vts a mk2? i can remember a thread a while ago when you said how much power you made. was just wondering if yours was a mk2 as mines is a mk1.

i have raceland with a green filter,
port & polished throttlebody,
708's
supersprint 4-2-1
supersprint 2" straight thro'
scorpion backbox
port & polished head(in a couple of months.)

you think ill see 160?

spencer_cammedvts
31st December 2006, 19:34
thats what im hoping for anyway. 155 minimum.

williamsvts
1st January 2007, 14:45
mine is mk2.
with them cams you'll make between 150 - 160.

spencer_cammedvts
1st January 2007, 16:54
i thought the port & polished head was supposed to help the catcams more as they have a higher lift than their rivals- pipers & kents?

£475? Has it gone up I though it was £350

williamsvts
2nd January 2007, 20:31
DONT GET IT MAPPED ON HIGER RON FUEL THAN YOU WILL RUN IT ON!!!!!!

yes it will give you a higher figure to brag about. but your car will be mapped for really good fuel and ignition timing will be spot on, so if you then start running it on 95ron you wiill have a chance your engine might start pinking/detonating. if i was you i would get it mapped on 95, or if your going to run it on 98 all the time then 98. dont use octane booster though!!!!

fuzzy_orange
2nd January 2007, 21:02
Why would you run it on octane booster while getting mapped?

Are you insane?

Then they will map it on that high octane fuel - and when you chuck normal unleaded in it will pink and blow a valve out

*sigh*

Oopps might help if I notice a page 2 - but yeah monkey motorsport knows his stuff - he aint wrong!

CampDavid
3rd January 2007, 08:00
Indeed. Get it mapped on a full tank of your prefered choice of fuel. Mapping on octane booster is a bit nuts. Mapped mine on Optimax, doesn't like 95RON now. Which isn't a problem as I only use optimax (or V-power or whatever it is now)

spencer_cammedvts
3rd January 2007, 08:08
ill just fill the tank with super unleaded which i think is 97 ron. then if i get a bit skint towards the end of the month it wont make as much difference if i drop down to 95 for a tank. ;)

didnt realise about it detonating from using a higher octane fuel!

most people see between 155 & 160 without the port & polished head and i got a couple of other bits that people dont allways have. like my manifold is heatwrapped, i have litereally got a straight through. you look into the backbox and you can see right down the 2" bore centre pipe. also got a port & polished t/b.

its a vtr with a 99 vts engine in.which is another bonus with it being a mk1 engine. dont they usually produce more power? 5bhp on average?

spencer_cammedvts
3rd January 2007, 08:11
as for the price he said its 405 + vat.

so i made it £475 / £476 round figures

fredjudd
3rd January 2007, 09:55
475 is what they quoted me on a 16v aswell, IMO i wouldnt run the octane booster on the day because the ECU will be set to run with it in the tank all the time so you will have to put more octane boost in the tank everytime you fill up.

Just wack some 98 RON in it.

3rd January 2007, 09:57
I couldn't be arsed to spend £475 on a remap anymore......maybe I've seen the light.

VTS_16v_Boy
3rd January 2007, 10:27
Sounds good figure 150-160

Would people recommend a remap on a standard 16v Lump with Air Filter Manifold and Exhaust or is the standard map fine with these mods?

Sorry about the Hijack :-(

ets2k9
3rd January 2007, 10:31
std map will be fine wait untill you have something major before remapping.

spencer_cammedvts
3rd January 2007, 12:36
STEVE!!! dont be gay! you gotta persue ur cams & remap mate! especially with all the threads youv had about them and the amount of times you have driven us all mad changing your mind on what cams to get! lol.

there is a place in leicester as you know that does remaps for £350 and there are a couple of garages that iv been to now that say they are actuelly quite good with n/a cars! if i was on a budget id have deffinatly have gone there!

ets2k9
3rd January 2007, 12:40
I dont want to do remaps on a budget it sounds like a false economy to me and I apologise for all the cam threads and mind changing but my current mind state is to leave it alone.

I dont plan on keeping the car that long so spending another grand on it makes little to no sense.

Enjoy it though :)

heat wrap wont make any difference to your power really, port and polish wont make much difference either without throttle bodies or wilder cams.

every little helps!

4th January 2007, 09:50
As said before, get it mapped on the fuel your intending to fill it up with every week! I would highly recommend V-power personally :)

With your spec i would say you should get 155- 160 with the head - thats assuming the headwork is up to the high standard which it should be where your having it done.... :D

Also depends on the state of the engine, the oil its ran on in the past (before you had it) why it was written off etc etc! I could go on for ages.

Let us know the outcome buddy :D

spencer_cammedvts

it was owned by a lad off here called ben hoad in wales who is a mechanic at a jaguar factory and said he kept it well serviced!

it had had an oil change and a new head gasket just as i bought it. and i know that for sure as i checked the oil and it was clean as fook. its done 6000 miles since i dropped the s engine in and its having:

a new gates cambelt
castrol gtx magnitec oil in
champoin oil filter, and
a whole new headgasket set fitted including new cam oil seals new valve seals etc...

all is being done at the same time as i fit the 708's and get the head port & polished & skimmed :)
