hole in exhaust manifold/exhaust advice

:afro: just wondering if anyone can tell me how much i will hav to pay for a new exhaust manfiold and fitting, might try it meself tho, i got a hole right were the weld holds it too the car! is it worth getting a sports manifold? got a standard exhaust system on at the mo but got a hole in backbox so might think of upgrading that soon also?? wat does anyone recommend?

had the exact same problem mate, had a hole in my manifold right there too, buy the raceland 4-2-1 and fit it yourself its peice of piss. i fitted mine.

Ok... so that would mean your cat is in your manifold. If you do change the manifold, make sure it's one with a cat. A sports manifold is an option. Some people do look at de-catting so again... you'd have to buy a manifold to suit this.

You also have a hole in the backbox. I take it it's beyond repair as that'd obviously be cheaper.

But otherwise... do look at getting a performance manifold (de-catted or not) and then a full system with new backbox, etc... It will set you back a fair amount but the gains would be worth it.

i tell ya i bin caning the gun gum, might just patch up back box till the manifold is sorted, I thought my cat was betwenn the manifold and back box??

Your car was during the change over. If it's an early 2000 model, then the cat's under the car. Otherwise the cat will be in the manifold.

Your best bet would be to have a look under the car for the cat ;)

yeh it is under the car ive seen it....... sound....I jus been on the website can get it for 180 , best get me walllet out, might attempt it meself , do u have to weld it?

Yeh that sounds fine :)

I'm not 100% sure on how to fit it as I've never done one before but what I do know is that the original manifold will be very stiff/rusty so a lot of elbow grease will be needed.

What are you going to do about the backbox? A temp fix as you said before?

yeh, its in a bit of a tricky spot tho, seen some possible alternatives on ebay, piece it together bit by bit, not got alot of money at the mo! cheers for the help

I take it your MOT isn't due yet then as that'd be a fail. Take it to Shit Fit (aka Kwik Fit) for them to give their verdict on what needs to be done to it. You can always have their verdict. Doesn't mean you have to do it ;)

Just soak the bolts in WD40 or other releasing fluid for a few days before attempting to get them off and it usually comes off fine.

Can't remember for certain but check whether you need to add VAT and delivery onto that GMC price.

should be able to whack ur new mani on yourself, i did mine with the help of a mate was easy peasy, only needed him to catch it when i took the old one off, also i recomend buying new studs and bolts, makes life a bit easier and is dirt cheap.
