Failed the mot yesterday due to insufficient braking from the handbrake, not a problem i thought, check the discs and pads, then ajust the cable. Thing is it seems that one cable is longer than the other, so the handbrake is only working on the drivers side :n: i have tried ajusting, but no luck, any ideas? is it the wrong cable? could the rear calliper be seized? its an r reg vtr by the way, any help much appreciated.
(p.s- the cable only seems longer by a few mm)

I think you can adjust the tension of the handbrake by tightening one of the two nuts (depending on which cable is slack) that are located near the cat, underneath the car. The only time i messed with my handbrake was when one of the cables snapped. Pretty easy to replace if you got the right tools and equipment.

cheers for the reply, there is only one nut to tightin though, as the cables fix onto a bracket, then the nut pulls on the bracket of you know what i mean.

I thought you were going to say:
I put the handbrake on and it rolled out of the garage...

buy new cables, sets you back £30 but then you wont have the worry of snapped one in the retest

TBH you should replace both cables at the same time, Its not a big job but in this weather its a pain in the bum. Email me if you need a hand and i'll talk you through it.
