an air filter is part of the induction kit. it cleans the air that goes to the engine.
you can replace the standard filter on its own to fit in the standard airbox or buy a whole new aftermarket system to replace standard airbox.

i wondered if you did.
right your standard car has got its own induction kit already, its a plastic box that lets in air at the front of car. inside the box theres a filter, the air goes through this to the engine. thats basically an induction kit whether its the standard one or an aftermarket one like bmc or green etc.

what i should have wrote was that theers not a difference as the airfilter belongs to the induction kit. yeah? lol

induction kits work on the same principle as air filters, but rather than improving the flow through the filter in a standard system they replace most of that system. The effect is to provide the air with a more direct route from the outside world to the engine. More complex kits include ducting to direct the air down a specific route towards the engine rather than simply letting it float around inside the engine compartment.

right ok, the area i have circled in yellow is where your air filter is located, inside that black box!

the pipe i have drawn red lines down the sides of it the cold air feed for the air filter!

now an induction kit replaces the black box (circled in yellow) and attaches to the throttle body like so..... (please note in this pic the cold air feed has also been removed as the induction kit came with one made specifically to fit)

hope this helps

Oh i get it now but there is still one more question . . . . . ready . . . . does an induction kit make your car sound louder?

an open induction kit would sound louder yes, but an enclosed, such as the one in the pic i posted doesn't make much sound at all!

There are different types of open and enclosed filters, but here are two of the most common looking ones

hey :)
basically if you want noise it will be an open induction you're after, although it wont really increase your car's performance...

an enclosed one is more for performance than noise (can cost a fair bit more too)

hope that helps
