Piper to Panel?

I currently have a Piper X foam filter on my vtr.
I like the sound but it does make the car bog down due to drawing in hot air.
I dont fancy buying an enclosed filter at the moment so
i was thinking I'd refit my standard filter with A K&N panel filter.

would I see a slightly better performance that having my Piper X on?

i have a green filter in my oe airbox at the moment. to be totally honest it made no real gains in performance. but in your case with the piperx it probably would be better as you are not sucking in warm air from the engine.

best performance per £ in terms of induction.

it wont be as loud so youll prob think youve lost power although it will be slightly better. with whatever induction you do get though there not gonna make a massive difference anyway,
