dont really know much about performance on engines so, i went to my local performance centre and asked what was a good mod to get more power the dude behind the counter said what mods have you got at the min so i said, cat back exhaust, pipercross induction kit with cold air feed, he said how much do you wanna spend so i said around £200-£250 for the next mod and he said that for the next thing i should go for one of their ECU remaps for £249 and i will be running 110Bhp
Does that sound realistic to you guys?
thought id ask the people in the know before i do it lol

a remap should be last on the list of things to do!
cams, headwork, pistons, induction system (TBS/boost) etc.... before :P

i aint spending big bucks on it, but i do want it to be fast, proberbly not the place to ask but whats a rough price on cams supplied and fitted, headwork and piston, throttle bodies and turbos are just way out of my price range
bullit

decatting will free your car up a bit more and will also sound more throaty. when it comes mot time for me the garage writes that the cat was put on for the test which it wasnt so if you go to a garage before hand and sort it out, slip them fiver youll be fine

cam, pulley supplied, fitted plus remap will be near a grand
Essay
15th February 2007, 21:33
oh right, so would it be a good idea to get a manifold and decat next then?
bullit
15th February 2007, 21:34
yeah, the last thing you do is remap so if you changed the mainfold after remap it would have to go back the rollers again

my price for the ecu remap was 450 as opposed to the price you quoted, which i think will prob a chip not a remap
Essay
15th February 2007, 21:42
could i have it chipped then manifold, decat and then a remap ?
bullit
15th February 2007, 21:44
you dont need it chipped if your going remap, but dont need remap until cam change

If you could enlighten us on who quoted you on a ECU remap it would be highly appreciated, I am trying desprately to find a competitive price on a remap as £450 (chipwizard) would be a waste on the basic mods I am going to be doing to my car: -
Mild CAM & vernier pulley.
Manifold, decat & s/s zorst.
Enclosed induction.

Pretty much as per the advice bullit has given really avoid silly chips as you shouldnt have to worry about altering the fueling untill you was to change the cam/s.
The art to gettin more performance is get as much air (as cold as possible) and fuel in, burn it and then get it out as quickly as you can so the you can then start again.
Your on the rite way already with a induction kit to get more air in then the performance exhaust to help the exhaust gases be removed from the engine quicker.
If your looking for the next step engine wise - either look for an enclosed airfilter to aid in the filter sucking in only cold air and then changing the OE Citroen Cast Iron manifold to a Mild Steel or Stainless Steel 4branch item.
Either a 4pipes into 2pipes into 1pipe (4-2-1) of a 4pipes into 1pipe 4-1 will see an increase in performance.
4-2-1 for low to mid range power increase
or
4-1 for mid to high range power increase
After the mods mentioned above a perfomance cam with a remap of the ECU to get the timing and fueling rite or if you have the cash blow the engine with a Supercharger or Turbocharger :-) only Legends need aply for these

its called streetracer, like i said though i dont know what there like or any good.
i dont know the newmans range but you dont want a too mild cam as it wont be worth it as much. it will still run fine
