Ok, are these ECU chips any good? Ive seen loads of the cheap crap ones on ebay that are useless, but what about this one? im just not too sure! Cheers.

I had one on my vtr it was ok and seemed to make the car quicker increased the limiter and ran good with it installed, loads of people will slate it but i have tried and tested it and it was ok, when i had a proper rolling road re-map done cause i got a cam installed the garage who done the remap said it was a ok map on the old chip and was modified and working to a extent

Thats a very intresting little chip and the detailed description gives a little more confidence over the cheaper ones on ebay, it ticks all the right boxes for modded cars (zorst, induction, cams etc)...

If you do decide to go for it keep us posted on your thoughts, and whether or not it will actually fit your ECU as it refers to a BOSCH ECU only.

also it says he will set the rev limiter to whateva you want. any idea what i should have it set too? cheers

but how u goin set it?
buy the way there is quite a few bosch ecus out there as well check to see if yours is a 5.2 but they do a 7.1 and a 7.2 aswell. (the 7.1 n 7.2 are better)

I shall be investigating my ECU tommorow when there's a bit more light, shame this info is on the base of the ECU, :n: mine is the single plug ECU if that helps in anyway.

I've actually dropped them an email to see of I can get to speak to anyone and see if it is actual what it says on the description.

Wonder if they would consider dropping the price for two (adammelton) ;) and if our tests go well we could recommend them as a stop gap for a proper remap.

i am sure i read u have to have an unlocked ECU for these to work as they change the coding for the immobilter or osmething. can anyone shed any light on this?

nice one mate just drop me a pm when you hear from them! cheers mate. (manc)

@stevenet15: On my list of questions I shall be asking if/when I get to call them.

@adammelton: No harm in asking is there ;) Shall let you know once I get a bit more info, cheers for considering this option.

I can give you all the info you need i have had one installed on myn and fried a ecu trying to fit it myself talk to this company they will be able to assist in fitting and ecu codes as for performance i can get a graph from the place who done my remap as he kept it on his computer and showed me the power curve what was really high for acceleration purpose's

"Fried ECU" two words that scare me shitless.

Do atpelectronics do a similiar sort of chip as these or do they only deal in OE ECU's?

What im saying is it needs professionally soldering to the ecu via professinals as its a flat bed chip whe i purchased a new ecu from atp i asked them to fit the chip to the new ecu they done this for me and transfered codes from fried ecu to my new if you ask them how much to install and sort out codes etc they should give you a price on it wont be exspensive prob around £50-60 then you can be certain that you are not going to kill your ecu

This is begining to be a compilcated job all of a sudden and the costs are starting to creep up towards the £100+ mark, for this type of money you could get a Dasktek unichip (second hand) ...

Stiffler, once this was all done did you notice any difference in the car and was all this effort worth it?

Cheers for your help so far, certainly put me on the straight and narrow :p

Not sure you can get a dastek for a £100 though lol then that needs mapping ontop of that too

Yes it made a good difference to the car when installed properly and was worth the money it was a quick fix and got the car running well and performing well i had a 4-2-1 mani, decat, full system straight through, and enclosed induction kit and it ran really quick and well and the limiter was lifted aswell but its not recommended without cams tbh.

The 50-60 was just a guestimate mate it might be alot cheaper for them to do it but all in all it was ok and the car seemed to be quicker.

you can gey dasteks cheap its the firring and mapping that cost

Well I need to speak to them to acertain what is involved in fitting this chip dont I... roll on tommorow. :y: (hopes its cheaper) ;)

Your spec it pretty much like mine but yet to fit my cam & pulley, nice to hear it made a difference thou, what bhp did your car make on a RR once this was all done?

Thx.

Had a email back from them which isnt really helpful. I get the impression from his email that he has been messed around before and for this reason he is not being very flexible nor very helpful, some of points taken from his email.

1. No wont do cheaper price for two even ownersclubs etc.
2. Prefers all communication via email/PM

Below is how he describes the fitting of this chip.

The original eprom is desoldered.
The socket is soldered in its place.
The new eprom then clips into the socket.

All in all sell & forget type of affair.

manc

Really not sure at this moment in time.
What spec you running adammelton?

Personally I need to get my cam\pulley fitted first.

im jus running a vtr mark 2 with a piperX with cold air intake and a full s/s peco. Thats about it mate, was just hoping to make some improvements without going to major at present.

2,500 lol.
no point having it raised unless you have cams.
In a VTR you should be changing around 5,600-700 for performance anyways.

Well I'm screwed as I'v just had a look at my ECU, have the follwing info on a label: -

ARIANTE 2800 MP7.2 03
2 241 858

All the chips I've seen in his shop dont match up to my details :n:

Shall keep adding to this as more info becomes apprant incase it helps anyone.

Got another email from the chap selling the above chip on ebay, he says my ecu is "re-flashable" :p so it would be easier to get it flashed rather than add a chip...

I asked if he could do it, if not could he recommend someone who could.
Yet to have a reply.

nice one mate. what does re-flashing mean?!

manc
24th February 2007, 21:13
nice one mate. what does re-flashing mean?!

Reflashing means overwriting the existing map inside your ecu.
Certain ECU have unflashable maps inside ecu's, where as other ecu are re-flashable.
Hope that makes sence :y:
