best tyre size for perf....?

ok...I am asking this or a friend of mine...

he has a 1.6. 16v and wants to know which tyre size is better for the standard mk1vts wheels....for performance offcourse...
wheels are 6 in wideness...

so 195 or 185 for the standard vts rims???
