first of all i would like to say hi to all and looks a cool site since perchasing my VTR have loved every minute of it jsut sahme clutch and gear box gone on it after only owning it for 3 weeks :( but hey things happen but still love it :D

what would you all say to putting a 1.5 Diesel gear box in a VTR what will that do to my MPG?
0-60?
and is it ok?
many thanks,

reason i ask as my dads mate mechanic said he could fit a 1.5 deisel gear box to my car now or wait for a VTR box to be delivered!

what would you all say as you have probably owned a saxo/VTR longer than me and know abit more than me :)

any help greatly appreciated
Thanks Bill.

Im sure ive seen somewhere that its ok to fit the diesel box to a petrol saxo/106, and there stronger than petrol ones. Not sure though, im sure someone will put me right!

the box will fit, all the cogs from all the boxes are just a nice mixture to suit each car.

off the top of my head the derv box is similar to the westcoast/furio ratios, just the final drive is different.

powerwise the box will take it
I'll try and hunt the ratio's between the two, but my understanding is the VTR box is quite tall so anything in comparision will be shorter which will promote slightly quick acceleration..

many thanks for quick replys really appreiciate all the help!

i mean obviously i understand these cars are not stupidly fast but i like to think i could keep with the flow of moving traffic and not cause an accident by stupidly underpowered and not being able to move out of the way or moving traffic without revving the bollocks off of my wee little car!

many thanks again Bill.

Bill dont worry the car will not suddenly transform into a 1.5D lol :y:

good good lol!

ok thanks mate so i shouldnt expect to see any huge noticable differences then no?

nothing to worry about as you have already said just slightly quicker on the excelleration and the fact that is a sturdier(if that is even a word lol) box?

thanks again Bill

I'm not 100% sure on the ratio comparisons between the two, but all in all, you want have any troubles with the fitment (as i understand it). the box isnt sturdier than any of the other boxes but it'll take it :)

My gearbox went and i had a diesel box put in, there was no difference in 1st gear but when i changed in to second gear i had an awful flat spot and it did 80 mph in second gear, the flat spot was awful and took about a second off my 0 - 60, so i had my old box reconditiond and put bk in, and it runs perfect now.

vts with diesel gearbox and standard limiter hits 63.9mph in 2nd. Not quite sure where you get 80mph in second from? even with limiter raised to 7900rpm you'd still only hit 70.1mph :)
