Hep people! I have decided im going to take off my piperx foam filter and put the standard airbox back on. However i want to put in a panel filter! Can anyone recommend one to me or are they all pretty much the same? I have decided to take it off as its using too much fuel. Will panel filters use as much fuel and will i see a slight increase in performance when i take off the piperx? Not too bothered if i dont, just want to save a bit on fuel!

Airfilter wise my favourite is green.. Not the cheapest but bang on the money for the quality. Would be a similar performance gain over an open filter sitting in the engine bay.
Fuel economy is more affected by driving style than what filter you have fitted IMO. Stick a cork under the go pedal to stop it fully depressing ;)

depends on how you drive. if you constantly press the loud pedal then fuel will be used more. a panel filter probably won't use more fuel but dont take my word for it. just be a little more gentle on the loud pedal. i have a green filter in my oe airbox. get one of these as they are good quality.

I might just leave the standard air filter in the airbox! Just getting bored of the old roar from the induction kit now!

Any of the leading brands K&N, Green sure BMC make a panel filter.
Used to have a K&N panel filter in my BMW 525i, Mk3 XR2i and my Mk4 XR3i. Didnt see a much of a gain but I normally fitted them in conjuction with performance exhaust at the sametime so cant really tell.
Your probally completely cut out heat soak problems but you mite find the engine slightly less rev as the open cone allows for more air flow being a larger surface are compaired to the panel filter.
Would you not be better off gettin a scoop? as for the price of a K&N or Green panel filter around £30-£40 that could be half the amount enough for a RaceLand Scoop from either eGay or KamRacing

I have got the airbox now ready to put back on! If i left the standard air filter in the box for a bit, then changed it to say a K&N panel filter, will i see much increase in performance or is it not worth me putting a panel filter in it?

Tbh m8 the only thing you will notice will be the noise, you will gain maybe 1/2 bhp from doing that, and 1 or 2 bhp is being optimistic. :)

If your looking to sell the car only spend the money on items the will return value to the car like removing slightly racey items with OE parts :y:

I have removed the induction kit and just put the airbox back on with the standard air filter, seems to be a little more responsive but alot quieter now.
