bullit
27th February 2007, 18:32
fair enough, lol
the profiles seem good but ive not seen any results off anyone using them. wait and see to see what people get if your in no rush cause they seem cheap enough without the group buy

Ok mate theres no rush anyway :)
When i was at pug performance (i know most on here and ssc slate them) but they said newmans are shit and to buy a different make...
bullit
27th February 2007, 18:39

Yeah as a matter of fact they did offer me some piper second hand cams that had been re profiled.
But they kept saying the newmans were a crap fitment and did show hardly any gains over standard...
bullit
27th February 2007, 18:48
thought you would say piper as im sure thats what they use. id just see if anyone gets good results with the newmans or just buy some 708s. i wouldnt have what are offering you, if it doesnt work and the cam being the important bit youll be kicking yourself if goes tits up.

Thats almost impossible lol, the newcam cams are longer duration that catcam 708s & marginally higher lift. I have no idea what the fitment is like but it sounds like they are just buttering u up to sell yousome of their cams :P

ferrari use exactly the same lifters that are in the vts/gti engines so catcams will be totally fine with them. springs will be ok to. as you know ferrarari engines scream at high revs so a vts with a limiter of say 7800 and 708's will be fine. thats what i have.

Have you had yours mapped Spence?
What did it idle like before the map? Wont pass mot untill i remap right?
spencer_cammedvts
28th February 2007, 16:35
no mate i wouldnt have thought it will pass mot till the map mate.
yes i had it mapped. made 166bhp @fly and nearly 147bhp at the wheels.
great power!
idled like a bag of wank before the map mate. you can tinker with the timing though to get it reasonable. i just didnt bother though as i only had 2 wks till it was mapped.

Do you need to switch to higher octane fuel level after cammed? What i your idle engine rpm's after remap? Because i hear that you need to rise you idle to 1100-1200 to have good idle.

no you dont need a higher octaine fuel. but what ever fuel you get the car mapped on should be the fuel you allways use. i got mine mapped on super unleaded. i tried normal unleaded the other day as the old bank was a bit empty. the car ran like shit. wants as quick and was cutting out sometimes at the lights. put super back in today and its fckin flying again.

im guessing they will be around the same figures as the cat cams 708s, very similar profiles at a slighty cheaper price. either way, they will be alot better than standard profile cams, dounbt they will be shite as some people have stated, newmans have been in business for years and do a load of motorsports gear.
