Ok I know zero about exhausts can anyone help me.. basically if you have heard the MG ZR with I believe the x-power exhaust this is the sort of sound I'm looking for on my vtr, if you haven't then its not a stupid loud one but its got a low sound to it.
Anyone know of ones that might be suitable? I don't want a really big one either. Also whats the difference between buying a backbox and an exhaust system? Do you not get the change in sound with just the backbox? Benefits of whole system?
Full help will be repped! Thanks

With a full system you will see performance gains, where as with a backbox you wont.
Hard to give you a system to match the sound of the mg, but anything like magnex, piper or scorpion have a realy nice sound and not too like unless you get a decat pipe to replace the cat!
If you do buy a full system and its stainless steel it will last fooking ages :)

what do u mean by nice sound though lol as in your preference? know of anywhere i could hear sound clips or something? do the systems add much performance, are they worth it? and id imagine just the backbox wouldn't be such a kick in the balls for insurance..

A backbox wouldnt insurance wise no, where as a full system would.
Expect to see good gains with a full system but dont expect too much lol.
People have posted sound clips so have a search around mate, but exhaust can sound very different on different cars.
Explain more what your after....

Hard to say as its a completely different car.
Most people have this trouble when it comes to exhaust time, i did, trial and error i think!? I asked around for ages for what system to go for no one could tell me, best thing to do is turn up at a meet and hear some :)

That is only a backbox.
I have hear of them, but never heard one on a saxo, there not that well known i dont think. If i was in your position i would do what i told my girl friend to do....
She has a saxo vtr and her exhaust was rustng quite bad! Her mot was coming up so thought it would be best to replace the whole system, so she did with a magnex cat back system, when i say cat back i mean from the cat back therefore it is still legal :)
We got it, fitted it waited for it to bed in before deciding it wasnt loud enough! There fore we replace the center section with an abp motor sport magnex center section, this doesnt have the silencer so it will be louder. it was and sounded alot better. See trial and error :)
Flew through the mot and she wanted it even more louder like mine so we fitted a decat pipe, sounds amazing now not too loud only when you want it to be!
As i said before best bet it to get out and hear some i think thats the only good way you can make a decision!

i think i would only be looking at the backbox for the moment anyway as i dont want anything really loud, and if there isnt really much power gained from the system then it wont be worth me bumpin up my insurance premium lol, ill have to look around

Thats cool mate could always buy a center section later on anyway.

how much does the centre section affect the sound?

Depends if you buy one with or without the silencer.
The one we stuck on my birds didnt have a silencer and made a good difference quite abit louder.
Its the decat that realy opens it up!

like i said i dont want anything really loud, just want a purely low sound without spitting spluttering..whatever you would say.. how would you define this? i presume its not "raspy", am i right in thinking "deep drone"?

Well how would you describe the sound of your standard exhaust?
gall34

no idea? lol what would you? normal lol

Standard exhaust i would say nice and quite, sounds nice'ish when nailing it!
If you dont want "spitting spluttering" i think just a backbox is best bet for you!

I would pay a little more and go for a better named backbox ie magnex, scorpion, piper, supersprint etc etc

Ok, Im not quite sure what the exhaust you have mention sounds like but it normally works like this:
A smaller tailpipe will produce a more raspy note
where as
A larger tailpipe will produce a more deeper boomy note
Alot has to do with the design of the interals of the siliencer as well ie the size of the can and how the baffles (the bit that reduces the noise in the exhaust), the more the baffles the better the noise reduction but the more it restricts gase flow ie perfomance.
See if you can work out the rite size and look of the tailpipe then try and match it upto a saxo fitment, no two different engined cars will sound the same (engine layout, manifold setup, exhaust length and back box style)

So what ive been saying then lol
:y: Yeah - Basically
If I was to start again and wasnt going down the striped out look I would go for the Dual Exit Scorpion back box, with a choice of 3.5' or 4' just the back box/es should give a really nice note like Scorpion always does and will look the muts nuts. Go for the 3.5' and it could almost like factory standard :clapping:
