Right...by the end of next month ill be avin £1000 to do with as i please. Knowin FCUK all about engines/cars in general i was wunderin if anyone could suggest the kind of stuff i cud expect to do with this amount and roughly the kind of gains i can expect. Got an '03 plate VTS, exhaust, induction...whats next if im lookin to get sum noticable changes (without going for NOS)?

gmc manifold (around 200) really if you dont have an enclosed induction kit get one, after that time for some cams and either a dastek or a ecu remap.
with cams, dastek/remap, enclosed filter, maifold and exhaust system you should be looking at 160 bhp at the fly...

Thanks for the advice, but what is a Dastec or ECU remap? Whats the differnce between the 2? Also the garage i get 'bits n bobs' dun at advised me to have 'head work' done? Any ideas wot this means and wud i wud i be better off goin for that or wot u advised?? i also been told no one makes a 'chip' for the 03 VTS, is this right?

Dastec:
A box of electrics that intercepts the electrical signals from the engine sensors then changes them and sends the changed signals to your ecu(engine control unit). what this does is trick the ecu into allowing more fuel into the engine and changing the spark timing equating to more power.(actualy more complex than that but you get the idea.)
Ecu re-map:
An ecu has, in it's memory, a set of spread sheats containing stuff like injection timing, ignition timing, coolant temp settings......lots of stuff like that, and for any given situation, it will read the information coming from the engine sensors, find the spread sheat for that sensor and find the figure in that sheet relating to the given condition, eg throttle position @50, cross reference that figure against all the other spread sheets add and subtract where needs be, and that's the figure it uses. all this many times per second.
The re-map bit is simply changing the numbers in the spread sheets and saving the new information the the ecu memory.
Head work:
Simply to bore out the ports leading to and from the back of the valves allowing a grater volume of air to flow through.
If you have head work done you will be allowing more air into the engine and there fore must tell the ecu to inject more fuel by way of a re-map or a divice like the dastec. It's vitaly important to get the ratio of fuel to air correct as too little fuel and the engine will go pop, and too much fuel will choke the engine and loose you power.
Hope this helps.

i think that LADs can get u 160 by doin all that stuff in one for about £1k, so it might b easier w/them. I would have said turbo/superchrger, but £1k isn't enough, u need about 3x it to get alomst 200, probably not even nar that amount actually

lol the old LAD motorsport packages, their standard of work is very good i hear but their power claims are a little inflated to say the least

ok...y not get the saxo super 1600 kit, gets u the whole engine and interior and exterior moded, probably costs more than most peoples homes, but still, atleast w/the weight reduction and the engine mods, u could get a pretty damn quick time, and maybe beat a standard Scooby or keep up w/an Evo round the bends.
Wot about on those bends near Buntingthorpe, the ones where it kamikaze @ 30, let alone the limit of 60
