View Full Version : Anyone with a GMC Manifold Fitted

Had a bad day fitting yesterday, still got to play around with it, so sensor isnt as stressed. Also couldnt get some of the nuts studs on as nut was seized now isnt but just screwed in, is there like an alen key hole on the end of the stud to screw that in seperate?
Meaning the nut is just turning and not the stud, and cant get the stud in far enough! only happened on 3 of them but tightened them to the right torque i should be ok for now?

My main question is, how do i fit it to the centre section, as the gmc seems to work as a nut, and i got to fuck off bolts with it. do i still need to use my standard springs? help me out! cos need my car for work and its blowing like a whore :afro:

Oh and urgent help needed! Photo's diagrams would be a great help, please note my standard nut and bolt wont fit :n:

got all nuts and studs on manifold done :y: could do with a couple of new ones though! should be fine for a couple of days.

now my next question is, relocating the sensor! it just fits but a lot of strain on in. how can i get it to reach more? should i cud a slit in the plastic case that covers wires?

then next step is getting it rigged up to centre section, as its blowing like hell.

lambda wiring - it should be plenty long enough its the routing that affects how tight it is.

studs - if you lock 2 nuts on, wind the stud in, then unlock the nuts, do the inner one up tight, then you should be able to wind the outer one off easily. tap out the threads in the head to clean them too.

gmc works as a nut? as in it has a thread welded to it? weird! mine used normal(ish) bolts and springs, had to get shorter bolts though as the std vts ones were much too long to get it to seal

yeah its got a thread on it, rang manic motors there.... as they fitted it to the car it was on previous and took it off last week. Said do it for £50 and getting it lowered at same time so knocked a few pound off. looking at £137 lowered and manifold done. and they will do a proper job aswel, so wasted my time yesterday fitting it, never mind though was worth a shot.

wrong sensor i only have one lol! manifold is on but cant get centre section on properly! going to get it fitted properly for £50 :n: seems a waste to be honest but the lad who is doing it is a sound lad! he said he would have to take it off and start over, could have saved the hassel and still felt able to drive my car without sounding like a tractor. Getting it lowered at the same time.... Total cost of £137....

if i remember correctly??
my vtr gmc manifold used the same style bolts as standard.
i had to cut a join new wires to the lambda sensor to get the extra length, that worked fine.

i got a new set of studs and nuts for the engine part of the manifold, then i got a new fibre ring seal and the bolts, springs and nuts. its easy to do yourself mate, im doing mine today if you want to pop over?? pm me if you do and i can direct you to mine :)

trick is to fit some zorst putty into the clamp and seal area of manifold/zorst. then fit the bolts with springs and nuts, dont over tighten this as it is there to flex with the zorst movement. have you got all the studs holding the manifold to the engine in? how about the gearbox mounting bolt that keeps the manifold to the box, is that in?
