Note: Most images taken on a mobile phone, alot of text not too many mod's just the story so far!

Well i bought my car on 07-10-2006.
The moment i picked it up i loved it, my first car and it felt rapid. Floored it in first gear and it made me smile :p.
Pick of when i bought it.
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/01feac0e.jpg

First day i got it and away off i went up to scotland, to find i would soon need a new radiator :n:, it was overheating but the fan soon cooled it down.

When buying the car i was too excited and bought it. It was forsale for £2600 with 58k on the clock 3 owners and the 2nd only did 200 miles in it. I was going to offer £2400 and he mot'd it but my grandad instantly offered £2500 and he mot'd it. (Obviously now i know why the bloked jumped at the £2500)
As you will find out my sax has its problems! So i will say now that i was glad when the bloke had to pay £400 to get it through its MOT thats the only thing that makes me feel good when looking back at the price i paid.

Anyway the overheating radiator was due to this
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/370a054a.jpg
which i have only had replaed last week :homme:.

I enjoyed my sax for a while, discovering how easy it was for the backend to swing round. And one day i noticed oil on the floor to find a split in my Boot Joint.
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/aef593cd.jpg
Which i have only just got fixed hehe with a 2nd hand shaft.

Now i was debating wether to start modding or not, as i hadn't got off to a good start.

Anyway onto better things...
My first little photoshoot

Then not too long on the 29th October i attended my first saxo meet :y:

Next i was to discover a big puddle of water in my footwells, i then discoverd that the problem had been there a while, as the carpet had been slit where it had been taken out in the past! and i found knifes etc under the carpet! which was a bit worrying, so i drove around rally slag for the rest of my time! no carpets and only front seats and i couldn't seem to find where the leak was.

I only found the leak 2 weeks ago from today!
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/5253a3d4.jpg

This is what was causing a leak, a crack in the weld at the bottom of teh pillar above the dash, now siliconed never got wet since!

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/2a399adf.jpg

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/b2429e17.jpg

At last a step in the right direction, and i convinced my self to keep the car and start modding.

A trip to the country!

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/2f413556.jpg

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/5714635d.jpg

Then came my first crash, going round a corner and lifted off the throttle a bit did this.
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/2788d775.jpg
Wasn't going to fast or anything! Just plain and simple lift off oversteer, and there was no damage at all, not in the slightest believe it or not, i went in backwards for those of you who dont know.
Luckly the ground was soft mud and wet, and managed to stop before hitting a bush + telegraph poll. Took ages to get out as it was on the verge of rolling over and the passenger side wheels were not on the ground, and there was a nice 50ft drop or so into a river on the other side of that track.
This is what the crash site looks like.

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/5dbff692.jpg

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/fa3ba59e.jpg

Next i had another problem, a trip to penrith sorted this one out. Going down rough single track road a WANKER was raking up in his 4x4 so i pulled into a gate way and i knew i would get stuck, and sure enough i hadnt nd couldn't move over enough for this bloke hammering his 4x4 he was laughing but swearing e.g. ahh you fucker you never drove these fucking roads, city lads all the same, al help you out. Sure enough he did, me expecting a push from the back of the car the wanker was pushing from the wing, shouting rev it you cunt wot the fuck you doing. Then i got wooo fucking woo slow down ya fucker. and he went there you go mate on his way he went i then got out my car to find this!

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/0ee3015e.jpg

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/7598b195.jpg

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/e4a5a5e9.jpg

I don't even want to comment on how i felt!

After my crash i decided i had enough of it, didnt even want to drive it. Just wanted rid. But then i thought well she would be good if got her sorted.

So i DIY'd my headlights.
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/320b5f29.jpg.

Now my sax is well fucked. Looks in a total state. But had it serviced, running fine! new radiator is now in aswel as new handbrake cables. an exhaust centre section fitted by shit fit, wont even go there. So my luck is totally shit when it comes to cars, but i decided fuck it! am keeping this piece of shit and putting it right. The other night i picked up some smoke ultra rears and a 4-1 manifold.

How she stands today.

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/Steve_vtr/Progress%20Thread/10f576c9.jpg

Tried fitting a manifold yesterday! that didnt go well, next saturday its away to get the manifold properly fitted and get lowered 40mm! so a step in the right direction.
So am keeping it and the mods are beginning.
Then on the monday after it has been lowered its away to get a new wing :y:.
During this week i am going to smoke my fog lights.

Future mods:

Colour code grill, with black mesh.
Paint Calipers (need advice on colour)
May get some 206 266mm Brakes :y:
DTM Mirrors (colour code them first)
Black VTR Wheels
Decent Cat-Back Sytem!
BMC
Decent Stereo System

Hopefully she will be looking good as i am planning going to FCS imagine if i turned up with a nice dent etc haha!
After the dent is sorted and manifold done she should be good to roll.

Also will give it a nice proper clean! the full works as a nice treat!

UPDATE 10/03/07

Just dropped my car off to get manifold sorted + lowered will get some pictures up from when i go collect!

Just been to pick it up :y:......

Ended up paying £167, as needed new track rod link or whatever as it was siezed and they had to cut it off!
they had to take manifold off drill holes and shit in it, my standard section seems to be pushed right up on heat shield though and rattles :n: but i blame shit fit for that!
Got the car lowered, but the springs are shorter he says so when jack car up the springs just arn't doing anything just hanging freeley!
Also backbox was blowing but sorted that out, seems to still blow a little bit though :n:

But overall top job i think :y:

One question??? i got it lowered with no rear seats! :panic: does that mean when put them in might make car a wee bit lower at the back?

Some photos..... (note i gave car a QUICK clean last night)
Cleaned (not lowered yet)

lol, car feels alot better al admit it doesnt feel as though it has as much torque but it deffinately revs alot freely, it was just lapping it up and i never really revved my car so far as it used to feel choked :y:

Only problem is that the centre pip + silencer are wedged right up against the heat shield! :n: rattles like fuck, how would you suggest i over come this? just have a play around loosing it off from the cat twist it a bit or what? :afro:

Lowered 40.... No am not! was going to but sick of driving it like that. Put the seats back in last night, actually feels like a car again. I seem to change my mind.

Next real upgrade i think is going to be some 206 gti 266mm brakes ;)

cheers, yeah 40mm all round, meant to take a while for springs to settle in! But said with my standard shocks didnt need to compress the springs to get them on, so might get them changed to better springs in time to come! Cos if not enough weight to compress them or whatever they might not sit as low, but deffo lower than before!

11th March 2007, 23:56

your telling me!

So any thoughts on my next plan? as listed above!

Steve
12th March 2007, 18:10
1 step forward 2 steps back, cant get teh exhaust adjusted so that it doesnt hit the heat shield, going back to manic motors he is going to have a look at it see what he can do! only think i no that would work is a centre section with out a silencer, but its a brand new one fitted not long ago by shit fit.....

Totally gutted, running out of savings :panic:

Steve
12th March 2007, 20:25
New plans for now

Black VTR Alloys (Gloss Black or Matt Black?)
GTi 206 Brakes (Gold Caliper)
Smoke Fogs
Panel Filter
Cat-Back System (Without centre silencer)

Steve
14th March 2007, 18:13
Right.... took heat shields off!

no difference! the bracket lower down teh manifold could do with the welds being cut off, tilted ever so slightly and re welded!

Going back to manic motors and he is going to have a look at it, doubt they will do what i have just stated but i think thats what should happen!

Or can you heat the manifold up and bend it?

Steve
14th March 2007, 19:07
just bought some wheels The Link (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71800)

will you just be spraying gloss black straight on again? tempted to leave them over night to full harden? or should another hour or so be enough?

One of them, is one i tried to polish, so theres no paint on one, so i'll primer it first then straight on with the glossy black yeah.

I'd leave them to harden over night. Is your garage warm or cold??

Steve
18th March 2007, 18:01
The laquer i had said apply 30 mins after painting!

It's the first time i have done anything like this. Bar accidently applying some dust to the badboys here they are!
Obviously around the edges they are silver where tape has been but can touch them up, as i said i wasnt wanting a proffessional finish, and still impressed with my efforts, looking back it really is worth taking your time! As i tried to rush them as i wanted them on a.s.a.p :y:

Here you go, sorry for poor quality.

There on, and i think they look the nuts, wish i had put more effort into it now, they look awesome. Started to bloody snow when i got in from work but thought fuck it so i was out there in the snow.

When i took my old wheels off i found a big massive nail sticking out my michelen piolts i was gutted as they have loads of tread left, thank richies garage for that haha :homme:

I never knew that vtr bolts were different, mine have like a ridge half way down and the ones i got with the wheels were screw thread all the way down with no ridge, only found out when i started putting them on. The locking nuts i got were shite, teh front too started to just keep turning so i left them straight away incase i fucked my threads, richie is kindly loaning me his.

Some shite photos as on phone was getting dark and raining, i didnt put my back to black on as the wheels are dirty and wet! Shame the front of the car hasnt settled it would look better if was lower at the front.

These photos don't really do the wheels justice! Need to get some touch up paint and do around the edges!

I will get some better photos at the weekend and decided to get that wing sorted, so its going in next week! and exhaust has started blowing from somewhere.

Steve
19th March 2007, 21:04
Next up this week before it goes away to the bodyshop:

Smoke fogs
Butcher grill, leaving chevrons cut slats out ready for it to be sprayed gold at the bodyshop.
Back To Black the tyres
Give interior a good clean out!

Backbox still sits too low for my liking, and centre pipe hits off bottom car if go over bumps a wee bit fast hehe.... But that will all change, supersprint centre sections are £63 in halfords so might get one!

She's back! Cost £400 :( Estimate was £250 but to replace the plastci arch on the drivers side was £115! But i didnt know that i thought they were like £50 otherwise would have got a 2nd hand one from vrs for £15! Feel sick at that price, dont even wish i had it done.

Got new n/s wing, new o/s plastic arch, new o/s bulb + holder, rear seat belt bolt put back in (wouldnt go back after i had seat belts out), took front bumper off and back on as was hanging off.
Also looks like they have re-sprayed the front bumper as it had loads of scratches and chunks from the crash.
Dont think i got ripped off at that price, just could have saved £100 if got a second hand arch!

Next in line, timing belt, might change the lowering springs as dont think the front is going to sit lower, its meant to be 40mm.
Fit magnex backbox, which is meant to fit over standard centre section even if i dont cut it, it should still fit.

That is a diesel centre section in the pic, but think the flange is the same size!

After those little things done, not spending anymore money on that car for a while..... Time to enjoy it for once, saying that think i fucked it on the way home was in 4th didnt look at revs dropped it to 3rd and a big clunk and hit rev limiter hehe..... Seems to be driving alright, last time i did that though i ripped the inner boot.

My birthday on saturday getting a decent digital camera and off to scotland so will get some decent pics.

My birthday list is some decent speakers, some car cleaning gear! Digital Camera :y:

also they have bonded my side skirts back on etc, they have fully painted my front bumper! citroen charged £0.29 for a little white clip for the plastic wheel arch, last time i needed some i got 10 for free lol. So dont think i have been ripped for £398.60?

no mate mine was just a straight pipe right the way through and welded in places but i cut about 2 inches off my centre pipe to get it to sit right, so you will have loads of pipe to play with there like i said trial and error so just keep cutting it bit by bit or take the back box of and put new one on and you can get the basic size you have to cut off

tell me about it, they didnt ask if i wanted to try get second hand one, which i can get for £15! But they are £115 from citroen.
the full list
Front Bumper Off, Sprayed Realined
New N/S Wing + Spraying
New O/S Plastic Arch + Spraying
Both Side Skirts Off And Bonded Not Sure If Re Sprayed Them
Rear O/S Seat Belt Bolt Re Threaded And Put In
Nice Clean
Adjusted O/S Door Aswel.

Think thats it tbh, the hardest part they said was matching the colour, done a good job i think shame about the price :(

not? lol

yeah it sits too high imo to they are gmc 40mm lowering springs, but the mechanic said cos they are uprated they are shorter and stiffer :panic: didnt even need to use a vice to get them on. So to make it lower with those springs will have to uprate shocks which will happen in the future, but think am going to get some spax springs on and sell those!

Would have cost alot more if took it to a citroen garage to get it done though

Thats because its been put back together, its just the light as if you see pg1 some are yellow and if see richardson_vts his is really dark but in person it was the same, some photos in his thread! Its meant to be 40mm but those springs are shortened and upgrated so dont think they will lower it as much, well thats what mechanic said.
Think al get some spax and sell those as dont want to buy uprated shocks to make it lower

Got a hold of some spax 40mm springs from andy (cheers mate), wanted to swap them as the gmc at time were too stiff for me, was going for more looks, and the gmc just didnt look low enough, so tonight thanks to williams (much appreciated mate) we (he) swapped the springs over for me, only been for quick blast round the lanes, its not half as stiff as the gmc's but would like them a bit stiff, but hopefully will make the car look a bit lower than it did on the gmc's which is my ultimate goal! :y:
Some working pics, will get some pics of car once the springs beded in a bit :y:
