Ok so me and the Missis have saved more money for our Hols so it looks like I can get my 4-1 fitted and finally see the back of the blowing Janspeed :y: result
Ok so now my back box (Janspeed) is also by the sounds of it on its last legs also because its rattling and making a funny noise on tick over and at certain revs, so Im taking the chance to replace my Mild Steel Janspeed items with nice custom built Stainless steel items.
Ok so this it, Ive got a 3' Jap syle can floating around (Brand new) very nice compact can exterior can can only be 3.5' so its not massive and will be very lite, but Im not totally sure this will ad any performance at worse lose me performance so what Im thinking is a OMP 'Style' back box cutom built with a 2' or 2.5' tailpipe to aid back pressure.
So which one?

(please note these are slightly out of scale but not by much)
The Jap can is sitting in my bedroom so it would only need a centre section fabricating ergo cheaper but the smaller Group N style item will possably perform better but will need the whole system fabricating.
Another issue to take account of is my interior is stripped so a Open, straight through Jap can mite be too loud.
Comments and views are gladly welcome.

The car is fitted with the complete group 'n' OMP system and the car is noise tested at every event. At the last event we were getting a reading of 94 Db at 4000 revs.
The car is stripped and running with a dog box and we can talk while driving without the need for headsets, so my take on it is to go with the group 'n' rear box to make it bearable.

not a fan of jap stuff on euro cars doesnt look right
get the group n and mount it right
id maybe make the hole in the bumper smaller ot blank it off and let the exhaust come from underneath

The meter reading is taken at 1 mtr away, and the thing is a lot quieter than most of the tw*ts flying around town!

Very helpfull advice mate, funny people think of rally prepared cars a as loud as a tank but the rules state they cant be :clapping: Cheers

Must admit at the moment with the straight through setup the loudest thing on the car is the bloody puffin manifold :( Also now Im getting old I dont go out in the evenings as much as I used too

I do agree, its only that the small Jap can is layin about and would only cost me the fitting fee against the group N style box which he would have to fabricate. Also because the janspeed tailpipe is only 3' I never trimmed the back bumper so its the normal size as it left the factroy
Magnex :p
Grrrrrrrr, I HATE Magnex
The jap can mate

I am very very tempted mate as its here I know what it looks like the size is perfect 3' tailpipe, can slightly bigger at 3.5' and I imagin it would really burbble like a beautey with the 4-1 and straight through but just not sure wheather it will look or sound rite with the other bits Im plannin to do in the furture.
Please Note that the Group N style exhaust shown in the picture is a OMP and seeing as I want to keep my sports Cat and dont wish to pay £300 the Back Box will have to be Fabricated from scatch - This is not a 'Off the Shelf' item.

Rite Im popping into 4Extreme Performance just outside Billericay today about midday to book the car into having the manifold changed and also ask him if he can fabricate a Group N style back box - ie a small comapct can with a 2' to 2.5' tailpipe.
I shall see what he says and report alittle later, Thanx for the comments and views.
Funny no one mentioned or commented on which would perform better

Ok Ive just got back from 4extreme performance and Im booked in for Thursday 15th to have my Manifold fitted and my Band New back box . . .
. . . In the style of a Group N :y: Couldnt resist it, picked out a really nice tailpipe didnt measure it but its around 2' and slightly curves out at the end.
I asked for a compact can, so he's gona fabricate me one up - cant wait - hope once the 4-1 is fitted and the new back box is on might get some poppin and farting (even if I AM still runing a Sports cat)
I'll post pic's Friday 16th morning - Oooo cant wait - Blowing like a Bitch on heat and I reckon Im Well down on performance too at the moment :(

Woo, good choice mate, i will be gettin a new cat back soon as mine is knackered now, mild steel so starting to rust and blow. Also a 4 inch end can, lol. i hate it now used to love it...
I'll be gettin a 2.5-3 inch if i can, i love the look of outwardly rolled group n style exhausts. Cant wait for pics. :)

Yep as soon as Ive got it fitted I'll have a pic up the very next day.
The mild steel janspeed is really had its day, think the baffles are breaking up cos its rattling like a bitch :(
Gona sound great through my slightly stipped interior . . .

i had the group N adn loved it. a custom syustem will loose you power imo. where will you be getting it done? the OMP system is very light.

Looking good - I sure I mentioned Silver was the best colour didnt I? :y:
Just gota find a slightly narrower tool to get the side panels out then in the summer the carpet is coming out of the front and maybe one bucket as my girlfriend finds them alittle uncommortable as she is slightly bigger than me but thats ok cos if I get a weekend car to soak up the mileage then I can remove the passanger seat as well :p Boo Yer Bring it on
Really wanting the Rally rims tho :( cant wait might get em before I lower it not sure

Well Im not really looking for the most powerfull S on here as after the change in exhaust the engine is being left alone not intrested in more bhp just want a certain look, sound and nice drive when I want to put my foot down. I accept the OMP will perform better as it replaces the Cat also but I like cats so the moggie is staying. Meow Meow

what im saying though is a powerflow will be worse than a standard exhaust for power.
MaRiO89
8th March 2007, 13:48
Worse! I'm confused now, aslong as they use 2 inch bore and not any bigger shouldn't lose power i dont think.
williamsvts

powerflow dont bend the pipes properly so they get thinner at the bends, causing turbulance in the gasses.
