Borderline whether this fits into this cetegory or not but here goes.

I have become quite fond of the old 16v lump and have been considering putting one into another car.

Now the reason iv chosen the 16v engine is because i know my way around it pretty well now & im comfortable with it.

So... If i were to transplant the engine into another vehicle, what would i be looking out for?

I know rough things to look for but i dont know any details.

Things like having custom driveshafts made to mate to the new hubs. Do the gear linkages need to line up and what about steering racks etc

I had a nosey on the dvla website and there are criteria which must be kept the same in order to keep the car registered as the kind of car it is. So i have to keep the origional axels & suspension etc so all ill be taking from the VTS is the engine & gearbox & anything else that is extremely necessary!

Ok guys overwhelm me with information that will make me wish i never even wrote this thread!

Cheers :)

You could start by telling us what sort of car you want to bung it in?

Bits you will need to carry over include the gearbox, and if you're carrying the ECU accross the loom and clocks too. Everything else depends on the car you're putting it in really

Yeh i had intended keeping it a secret incase i dont go for it. But i suppose i wont get the support ill need without coming clean.

Its to go into a classic mini. The ECU will be coming too and as many of the 'luxuries' the vts has has will be going aswell (electric windows, central locking, heaters that heat etc)

Its commonly done with VTEC engines since rover & honda had an affair a while back there are alot of similarities. Id rather do it with the vts lump if its worthwhile though.

Best to probably ask on a mini forum, I'd iimagine you are into custom drivehafts and then keep the mini suspension, almost certinaly infact as porting the saxo stuff in would be nigh on imposible at the front and totally impossible at the back.

You'll also need custom mounts, you'll most certainly need to move the whole fuel system aside from the tank accross too.

It will be tough, but it's doable if you're nuts :)

Best to speek to mini people though as it'll be similar to putting a K series/V-tec in.

A simple sollution for a classic mini maybe to do away with EFI and go carbs. I know they're shit but it'll make it a little bit simpler

I have a couple of contacts for guys who have DIY'd their VTEC conversions for help.

Iv got a mini in the worshop atm which has had the interior completely stripped and when i get time the engine bay will be too so ill have a better idea what im working with. I'v got a doner VTS too so i have access to everything ill need from it.

Anyone else with any experience with this sort of thing feel free to post it up. The more i know the better :y:

Cheers David
