Hi There...

As usual I have come back with a problem!!!

I had a new exhaust replaced a month ago and now my engine is blowing like no tomorrow the mechanic who fitted my exhaust told me it would be the manifold gasket which is blowing.

I am assuming it is the exhaust manifold as it seems to make a noise when I accellerate... which I think is a more sensible idea than the intake...

Would you agree?

So... I spoke to a mate of mine who knows a bit about cars and he said it's not too difficult I could do it myself...

Problem 1 = where the hell is it?
Problem 2 = how easy is it?
Problem 3 = can I get one from Halfords or something?

and btw what does the manifold do?

Cheers!

id doubt its the gasket at the head but if it is when you take the manifold off from the head you will see two sheets of thin metal, these are your gaskets, theres also another gasket underneath the car, which goes over the end of the centre section that joins into the end of the manifold, id say its more than likely the gasket underneath the car causing the problem, new gaskets are only a few quid and are easily fitted.. hope this helps!

Well I put my car in for it's MOT today and they told me there was a bolt missing and the gasket was knackerd.

So it looks like it was the exhaust could still be the manifold so we'll see... as the mechanic is gonna fix it Sat morning.

where was the bolt missing from!?

if its missing from the top of he exhaust manifold then it will deffo be blowing like a bitch!

bet it sounds like a camper van! lol

i bought 2 gaskets from motorworld for £2.99 each and they did the job fine, but you will deffo need another bolt if one's missing, and i bet you any money you like its the bottom left hand bolt thats missing!

hehehehehe I nearly fell over when the bloke behind the counter in the parts section said "Thata Be £3 mate" I always use main dealer unless I replacing it with a performance part.

You might be suprised how cheap some stuff is from a main dealer :y:
