VTR great car to strat with Light, good 8v engine :y: top stuff
Basically engine tuning is getting more air and fuel into the cyclinders burning it then getting rid of it as fast as you can.
Airfilters/Induction kits get your air in quicker
Your ECU will (to a point) adjust the fuel itself and put more in
Then a Performance Exhaust and/or Performance exhaust Manifold will get the Gases out quicker
There by increasing the engines performance.
Check out www.kam-racing.com for good airfilters and manifolds then its just a choice of the exhaust which is more down to how you want it to look as most of the leading brands Magnex/Janspeed/Piper/Scorpion will perform pretty much the same give or take a pony or two :y:
Dececnt airfilter - about £100
Decent Manifold - about £150-£300 depending on brand and type
Decent Exhaust - About £200-£300+ depending on brand and type

if you want to spend 1k then buy a vts engine for circa £500 and either fit it yourself or use the remaining money to have it fitted, far better than wasting money tuning the vtr in my opinion.

LOL then crash and they wont pay out nasty!!
Just buy a vts its in a different league, well thats what i got told when i had a vtr now i have a vts and i can say its soo true!! But when i had the vtr it was for a reason ie i couldnt get insurance on a vts :(
With exhaust manifold and enclosed induction kit it will feel a fair bit quick but still no match for the vts....

like said mate just go for the usual stuff, mani, exhaust, induction. to get alot of performance out of a vtr you need to spend quite alot of money on the vtr lump or put in a vts. where bouts in the midlands you form mate??

Dont buy a VTS - 1 coz you can afford it, 2 the VTR is a VTS minus the 16 valves and a few other niggly bits! - You "S" lovers dont eat me, you know wot im trying to say -
If i were you and i wanted a quick car, not fast, but quick car, breathing mods, filter circa, £80, exhaust & fanimold circa £400, lower it -40mm, lowering springs circa £50. and a 106 rallye gearbox second hand low'ish milage youll love it! I DID and so did Pav's when he did it, he thanked me so much for telling him to do it! LOL recording a 5.7 sec to 60 at trax 06 was impressive - the timing wasnt 100% by any means but still it was quick!!

has anyone put a rallye box on a gti/vts before!
Japman
2nd April 2007, 14:44
ive got a 1.4 box on my vts,its nipper as fock but its shite top end and uses loads of fuel :(
WestyVTR
2nd April 2007, 15:29
so what!! is quick right, not fast but quick. IMO a saxo is never going to be the fastest car but it can be dam quick and great in teh bends. The xsi isnt a bad box to have on a vts ive heard, not too dis similar to the rallye.
Japman
2nd April 2007, 15:43
i wouldnt say its much quicker,i found that my vtr box had longer gears.maybe im wrong but it felt longer and the top end was awsome
WestyVTR
2nd April 2007, 16:18
VTR is longer than VTS. Try a rallye box on the s ull love it!!
Ryan
2nd April 2007, 16:27
all use the same gearset. so the drop off between gears will be the same, its only the final drive that differs.
on my track car ive got a quaifed up s1 box, (not tested yet though) but have an xsi FD here to..
think the xsi box is a good one as alot less rare than an s1 box
WestyVTR
2nd April 2007, 17:23

My first VTR had a screwed up gear box, so i bought a diesel one for it for £100. Took me 2 days to take old one out and put diesel one on, was pretty surprised, 0-90 was really rapid, but top end only reached 105mph. But back when i had that VTR top speed wasnt important to me.
