i know a lad called dean who lives in Derby, has a VTR for track days and i have no idea how much it weighs, but its just basically 1 carbon fibre bucket seat a steering wheel, gearstick and an engine, he has literally stripped it right to the shell, looks like shit, but goes like it too!

Im very interested in hearing some figures as Im all for sheading somemore weight in the build up to summer - Maybe having a good dump before you go out in the car might gain me a second or two depending on what Ive eaten

I don't have any latest pictures. (Since I took out the all the front carpet and front door cards) But I'm sure I can dig an older photo up from another forum which shows the rear... Give me a little while mate.

So I take it you running just: Dash/ Seat/ Steering wheel then?
Id like to take it to that level but still using the car at weekends for me and the missis I cant really lose too much. Saying that Im having a Bucket for my side and lossing the front carpet to match the stripped rear for the summer :y:

There's much more been taken out since, but these pics were taken to show some people my new buckets. They are very light, only 7kgs, and the harnesses are lightweight Sabelts...

Does the instruments support their own or did you have to make a bracket to support them?
Bet it make the inside seem HUGE with out all that plastic!
So do reckon your down to about the sam weight as already mentioned around the 850kg mark?
I take it you back to bare metal everywhere else to ie the headlining gone as well, correct?

Sorry about the questions guys but Im very interested in your views and opiums.
What is your views on wheels?
Do think lighter wheels can not only increase handling performance but also reduce the overall weight of the car?
Im looking to switch the standard 15' S rims to 14' Rallye Steelies as I feel these would be lighter than the standard alloys - Do agree or dissagree?

Use the 6x 14 inch steels from the S2 Rallye.. They work out lots lighter than alloys.. at least 5 kgs a corner off the top of my head.
I used 5.5 x 13 inch steels from the European 205 Rallye on my Track car - With low profile tyres and lowered suspension the ride height was about 2 inches off the ground at the lowest point.
Unsprung weight is a bad thing and reducing it improves the car no end. Same reason why I'm not a big fan of fitting huge discs and calipers unless they really are required.

yup, 1.5kg indeed... times 4, and that's 6kg of unsprung weight lost. But then again, the spacers + the longer bolts could add a wee bit of weight to that! SO perhaps there's not THAT much to it after all... Except the leggera's look better. The TD's would look spot on if it wasn't for the curved shape of the spokes I reckon.
The VTS rims really that heavy? When I took the standard 14" alloys of my 106 during the swap to turismo's, I noticed that the 14" alloys were definately lighter...

haha- 72 replies- no weights of cars!!
I think the vts wheel thing is a misquote- 13Kgs with the rubber on them- add the rubber to the super or ultraleggera's and they go up a lot- when i changed mine over to 15" ultra leggera's fromstandard vts alloys it wasn't "wow, these are so light"- it was more of a "maybe there is a difference, if only i could be arsed to get the scales out".
Toad
27th October 2007, 12:21
The 15" Turini alloys I have weigh 8kg. The 195/45 Proxes T1R tyres with air weigh around 7kg, as when I put the complete wheel and tyre in the scales it came to 15kg.
