well im new the saxo so i dont know if its just me or the engine is a bit rough..

Its got a smooth engine sound but when you rev it theres a very light ticking.... ya can just hear it.

Its full of oil.....

is it how a sax generally sounds or is it in need of some attention.

Whats the process of sorting the tappets out? I know a little bit about them and i think it could be as its coming from right under the rocker cover.

Ive got a Haynes and im pretty confident in taking the engine to bits but do they need specialist work due to their precision?

Think my tappets are damn noisy too, any advise on sorting this would be cool.

Not sure if it's that straight forward with our lumps Rushy... You'll possibly notice more noise when the engine is hot, as the oil will be thinner. What oil are you using?

Nice never used to be this loud u see, only reason why it concerns me. Its
not abnormally loud, just louder.
Not sure on what oil is being used Toad mate, but a service is due now so im
going for fully synthetic oil, any recommendations would be ace.

Oilman seems to recommend fully syn 5w/0w-40 which i have been told by others on here is wrong..

I use 0w-40 fully syn.. good stuff. It will make your rngine sound a bit tappy because its thin but i would rather hear a bit of tapping and knowing its all being well lubricated than havin something like 15w in there which is too thick too lubricate some areas as it cant get there very well.. Thick oil doesn't mean your car is being well protected..

The manual recommends 10W40. If you want some extra performance without giving away any protection, go for some fully synthetic 5W40. I'm not gonna argue with James here, but 0W40 is still a tad thin in my opinion, and not worth it. There's a few decent 5W40 oils out there. You want to go for the true, ester based ones. I'm using Silkolene pro race 5W40, which is a fully synthetic, great choice, but not cheap either. I would also recommend this, if you want something pretty damn good for performance usage: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTUL-300v-MOTORSPORT-ENGINE-OIL-5W40-POWER-x-2-Litres_W0QQitemZ220013580289QQcategoryZ72205QQrdZ1 QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 is also good oil, and there's also Millers, which is an Ester based oil. All good choices...

I'm not arguing either, but this oil dude has recomended this grade to a number of people and i know he is an experienced oil specialist. :y:

Worked, i love it when shit i buy works coz fuck all does these days.... dumped most of the stuff in the engine, about 10 minutes later when i got home there was no ticking just a beautiful hummmm

Well impressed with this stuff.

was it the super charge oil stuff? you just take oil cap off and pour it in? best check your oil level if you did might have too much in there

there is stop smoke and oil treatment, think its the oil treatment one as it says helps reduce noisy engines, but only £5 on halfrauds site! :homme:

Yea thats the stuff, i was a bit curious at first but i was recommended it by a mechanic so i went for it.

I cant nock it, worked a treat. Engine oil level is just a tad above max. So im not gonna drain any out.
