I was sat in a beer garden last night with my buddies and we were talking about cars. No change there. But I mentioned what has gone wrong with all of your (my mates) cars and was quite shocked at how much has gone wrong with them. No a lot of my mates who I was with, aren't normal drivers. They really give their cars some hell. Their cars consist of -

1) 1.2 16v corsa
2) 03 1.2 16 clio
3) Ford fiesta 1.2 zetec
4) fiat punto 1.4

Anyways long story short, I started thinking about my 1.4 saxo and all I have had go wrong is a clutch, oil leak from the rocker cover gasket, 2 blowing exhausts, cat converter gone (just happened, free decat woo lol) and the usual tyre and worn brakes. Now I don't revv my car right up to the limiter, as the max power in a 1.4 is at 5.5K so there is no point. I don't always revv that far anyways. 4/500 rpm are my normal revvs. So I was just wondering this must be a safe amount too rev too.

Oh no tell a lie, I accidently hit the limiter when my misses was talking to me and I wasn't paying attention. Woops :panic:

So what do you guys rev up to then?

This is probally a lame thread, but I really do love the TU engine. If it wasn't for the slight tappyness, I would adore it lol

Personally the thing gets revved up to 8600, but thats not that often. 7500 then change up....

when cold i try not to rev it above 2.5k, when warm i normally change at 3-4k or 6k when i'm bored :P

as long as the engines warmed up you should be fine whatever you rev it to as long as your not bouncing it on the limiter all day

i dont really like to hit the limiter as i done it in a C2 vts and the thing went into limp mode lol!

7100 is enough for me :y:

TU engines were reportedly tested up to 14000rpm but i personally think this is queationable, my vtr has been driven daily for over 3 years touching 6200 rpm

mine touches 7800rpm quite frequently. like to play with the bigger boys a lot ;) focus ST, CTR's etc.

same as lol!

I agree the TU engine is a good little engine. I've had headgasket, rocker cover gasket and obvously the other servicable consumerables leads, plugs etc in the whole 125,600 miles mine has done from that tiny 1.1 :A:
