Hi, i took my car to a certain chain of garage as I had noticed a sound of running water behind the dashboard and oil in the radiator filler tank. I was firstly told I'd need a new head gasket.

Basically, they rung me up later and told me I needed a new engine because the wet lining/liner (can't remember the name properly) was dodgy and he said the repair costs may run up to £1400!!

They said a new engine would be cheaper than replacing the wet lining because the labour charges would be so high. I would like to know whether this is a fair price, whether I should take my car elsewhere (I only bought the car privately 2 weeks ago for 950!) and also, what the purpose of wet lining is.

Any help is much appreciated, my head's spinning!!

id maybe take it to another garage for a second opinion

its def the headgasket though by sounds of it

1400 does seem a high price and hes right saying an engine will be cheaper

but find a nice loacal garage and will be hell of a lot cheaper and will probley do a better job id say
