Hi, as my first car and not really knowing much i need some advise, sorry if the questions are a bit stupid, everyones got to start somewhere with knowing these things!
Anyhoo i have a 2001 VTR, the manifold is catted i think as i cant seem to see it under the car, could i run a straight through bit of pipe from the manifold to the backbox and still pass an MOT or do i need the silencer.
Im thinking of getting a magnex cat back system, does this come with a silencer or is it a straight through bit of pipe to the backbox?
If it comes with a silencer would it not be easier just to get a straight through bit of pipe and a backbox? if a silencer is needed to pass the MOT then i might aswell just get a cat back system as i dont really want to be messing about with changing things in time for MOT
Thanks alot guys :y:

All dependant on the car and what make exhaust you get mate but it should pass a mot with a straight through system on myn did. Magnex is a little on the quite side of exhausts so dont exspect much in sound, on the over hand coupled a magnex back box to a supersprint center section and this gives quite a raspy note but theres loads of options to go for and to answer your question your car will pass a mot with a straight through system as you still have the cat in the manifold

Thats good news, i was looking at the supersprint centre section, can you recommend any places to get this from?
Im thinking of going for the supersprint and then getting the magnex backbox, i was thinking the 3.5" tailpipe.

am going to run that combo just need to get the centre section, cheapest i seen is halfrauds £63 will have to cut it though at the end for the magnex to fit, but my cat is under the car.
Could be a bit more for you as the pipe is longer! Even better if you know someone who works there get 15% off!

As a rule as you could have no siliencers at ALL as long as on tick over the car doesnt excede a certain DB.
Most performance branded exhausts ie Magnex/Janspeed/Piper/Scorpion will be fine with just a back box and striaght through pipework upto the cat as they are well silienced but with still a sporty note.
Brands like Ashley or Peco maybe alot louder with out centre boxes that might be tiredsome on long trips ie motorways and wake the neighbours up if you come in late at night.
Take a look on somewhere like www.performancecentre.co.uk and see what back box you like and fits your budget then either buy a whole system (most will have a centre box) or find a striaght through centre pipe :y:
Alot of exhuast choice is down to what You like the look of really
